Looking at this Capri tomorrow
We looked at that ad today, but (as stoopid as it sounds) the colour wasn't right!Rob S wrote:http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/4260614.htm
Any good?
But otherwise it looks a proper example. No point buying something mechanically perfect if one doesn't like the look of it.
We went over to view the car today and was pleasantly suprised at the condition of it! The guy selling it makes, races, services and sells MX5 track cars and was a properly decent guy.
There's virtually no rust at all, bar a tiny bit around the head lights and a very small patch around the NSR arch. The chassis and floorpan are totally original with no signs of previous welding
Fortunately the car has done almost all it's mileage in the first 3 years of it's life and it's covered only 20k in the last 22 years!
I've not really driven anything of it's vintage for quite a while so having the task of driving it the 100+ miles to Ipswich was a treat.
And what a treat it was! The engine pulls strongly from 40mph in 5th and I was amazed at the comfort of the thing. Those 100 miles felt like 10, what a wonderful thing the ford 2.8i engine is
If I had the money i'd have a Capri tomorrow, if not sooner.

The only problem I found was that I couldn't fit a CD into the slot in the stereo, no matter how hard I pushed, I couldn't get the bloody thing in!!!

yes they are a great engine indeed the 12v engine has so much torque
its unreal low down
this was the graph from my old xr4i 2.8
http://xr4register.com/gallery.php?gall ... /&index=62
the torque will be alot better on the capri as it has a much better exhaust
sytem on it.
she looks an absolute sweet car.
with the type 9 gearbox its quite lazy in the revs at 70mph great for mpg
Yup, it's certainly a lazy car to drive on a long journey, can't believe how long the gears are! But when poked it gets a move on fairly quick, I just wish i'd bought it and not my brother.Bart wrote:

Those graphs look good, we're going to dyno it and see how many horses have bolted.
Along with all the old MOT's etc there was this...
Maybe it's been fettled?

My second one had a Group N engine, blueprinted with cams and a lightened flywheel and full Janspeed system. I made about 200 bhp, and went like a BLOODY ROCKET.
I the engine revs with real verve, it's been cammed up.
If I did nt do as many miles, I'd have a XR4 or 4x4 again.
Capri's are superb, but command SO much money
