Hi guys, it was my first time yes. Id describe it as the most terrifying and awesomely addictive thing I have ever done! My first lap was on a Saturday after the track was closed for 4 hours because of a big accident so I was shitting it basically. It was a baptism of fire because of the amount of traffic on track.

We stayed till Wedensday though and thankfully the track was much clearer during the week. Sunday morning at 8am was a good time to go and Monday at 6pm. Almost dead then so I could concertrate on my lines and not have to worry about dying!

We went to the Pistenklause and stickered it up and had a steak on granite. Awesome.

The RX7 exceeded all of my expectations. The balance, confidence and grip the car has is amazing. Even on some of the off camber parts of the track it felt very planted. The power was always on tap as well with the low down torque of the first turbo and then the extra boost of the 2nd coming in at 4k. It was enough to dispatch a few Porkers and a Corvette Z06! Reliability was second to none. We took 4 RX7s and none of them suffered any issues apart from a dodgey pop-up headlight.

I think this is going to take over my life! I am already saving for next year!

Here is a vid of my being chased down by my mate in his street ported twins RX7. This was his 8th visit to the Ring so he knew what he was doing!

The pics look superb. Plus glad to hear about the car and its reliability. Jaydee certainly knows what he is doing.

Also I said to you before its a terrifying place to start with when you are thrown in on the track with virtually no run off, cars that come out of nowhere, bikes that really come out of nowhere, gradients thats are quite steep in places, an eye opener the amount of money people have to be able to afford running supercars on there, you have everyone else who has seen Top Gear/played GT/Forza and thinks they can do a quick lap but once you are there its a humbling experience (I was one of those people!) etc etc etc. But once you get by all that its a fantastic place. I remember from our trip that sunday evening and during the weeks evenings tended to be much quieter. When you get a clean lap its superb, when you keep getting held up or someone in a bike that refuses to move over its so annoying. Luckily when we went it was a lot cheaper per lap than it is now.

I'm still very grateful to Stu for letting me accompany him and also have a few laps using his car plus being taken out with the other guys. Its a trip I often mention with fond memories. The good thing is you can combine it with other things eg good food, karting, visiting places, beer of course (for those that do!) :)

You are a brave man for taking a 20 year old car all that way but its really good to hear about the Rex reliability you guys had as we both know thats the first thing people say when you have an RX7 with a rotary engine isnt it.

Good vid and from what Rob says on the other forum he doesnt really have any of the mods that we both have done eg bigger stock mount intercooler etc and running higher boost. Should have just left ours stock :)

I would love to go back there with a few mates again someday.

Robs is by no means stock. He is running 1bar on sequential twins with a street port so around 360-370bhp. He is on the stock Bilstein suspension but really knows his way around the track. I was pretty happy with my laps nearer the end of the trip. I managed around a 9:30 which I think is ok. I wasn't timing though, thats just asking for trouble!

My biggest issue was with high air temps. I think a v mount is in order for next year!

You say not stock but its only the streetported engine though isnt it ? The fueling, intercooler etc is stock isnt it ?

Yeah vmount ftw !!! Must be good as all the Japanese tuners are doing them now.

Even without actually going on the ring it looks like an epic trip. Much respect to all of you that have done it, it scares the crap out of me just looking at the videos!

Great video fella - great angle - now invest in a better camera ready for next time :).

90% of the time I would never recommend that anyone buys an RX7 unless they want a life of pain and misery, however the 10% of times when everything works.....my god they are good cars.

That wasnt my vid dude, that was my mate recording me. He bought the camera for
