Brilliant, lovely to see them looking out for each other.
Sorry to hear you've given up on the Mazda, but I'm sure when the time is right you'll get something silly again!

It wasn't so much posting chickens, but even a city boy like you should know that a chicken keeping 5 kittens warm is a little unusual! :)

Cats have a habit of killing any birds they find, let alone share a shed with :) Introduce day old kittens and I initially thought that the chickens would have been very convenient food for the little ones............so far so good though.

I was gonna weigh in there tomorrow, brandishing a chainsaw and tennis racket, and see who makes it out alive :D

I have someone interested in one or more of the kittens and expect that not all five will make it anyway (not due to my efforts but more the morbidity rates of feral litters). These particular hens are on the older side anyway, so if they do end up helping the young rat catchers put some weight on, so be it.

We only have three hens left now and they have only yielded 20 eggs since the 14th July, which is pretty piss poor. Still, a heavily pregnant cat cracking out five kittens would probably put me off laying too :D

Update from the farm
Chickens are not laying anything at all, but at least we have a rather belated arrival in the shape of this

Unsure of a name yet, and we'll be picking her sister up tomorrow. We were supposed to collect both today but I couldn't catch the other one so we conceded that baby pigs had more grip in deep mud than I did :D

Say hello to Salt  (We named the black one 'Pepper' )

Image

This lovely looking pig is actually far more aggressive and troublesome than the far bigger and stronger black one from yesterday.

I don't mind the aggro though. It will make killing it all the easier :biggrinjester:

Ducks x 2 and Chickens x 2 on the way next week. Let's hope those buggers are easier.
