Thats weird because everytime i see a GTR i want one but i will have to stick with the camaro for now . I think that Calsonic machine looks great and it just looks like it goes like stink , and it also has side exit exhaust which i keep thinking about doing . The new box is a lot better plus with the lightweight flywheel the engine pulls a lot better in the lower gears . I did book up for the 26th so i will be there . I think you did tyhe right thing with the manwell conversion, esp as you like to track the car, should make it a bit easier on those brakes too. Hope to see you at snett on the 26th.

I have the dyno readings from the Marham trackday day which show ok HP but the torque is a poor 260 , it should make at least 300 . The fuel ratio is all over the place in the lower rev range as well , so i spent Saturday trying to find where the torque had gone. The AFR showed a rich mixture low down between 2 and 3k so i put in some smaller jets and did a road test but the motor felt sluggish . I forgot to say that on the way to Marham the motor didn't pull so well low down and i just put it down to being a bit lean and i had advanced to timing a bit to compensate . Anyway i tried bigger jets, smaller jets and some inbetween but the motor still felt down on power , then the penny dropped . The dip in the torque bottoms out when the advance curve in the timing stops , so i had put in too much advance . The cylinder heads i have don't need to much timing like the older heads and are also resistant to detonation so i can keep putting in advance and the motor dosen't ping it just loses power . So i backed off the timing and slowed down the advance to finish at about 3k and it did the trick , the motor feels and sounds a whole lot better . I hadn't really been bothered about the sluggish power low down as most of the miles i've done recently have been on track and the revs above 3k , so i just put it down to the motor being old . Took the Impreza off the road as i don't drive it much plus winter is not far away , so i decided to save some money and sorn it . Bit of a shame to have it parked up in the drive but don't have the need to drive it or the time to fix the little jobs to get it mot'ed . I don't plan to sell it but as i have the Camaro as a second car and the Prefect needs to get done , the scoobys going to have to wait for some attention . The main job with the scooby is the paint work and i need to free up some garage space for that . Its previously had a spray job but not done very well , so there are some damp bubbles in the paint and you can see sanding marks also . It wasn't sprayed on the roof so only the bottom half has been done and the laquer has gone from the roof leaving it matt . You can see the joint of the spray job on the rear c panel . I think its going to be a while before the Impreza see's the tarmac again . Pete:Chevy_anim:

Had a week off work to do some diy
and managed to do a bit to the Prefect as well . I thought it was about time i fitted the rear axle but in the end i didn't have enough time although i did clean it and put some paint on . The axle is a ford 9 inch American jobby and bullet proof but it ain't half heavy, 8 and a half stone heavy and thats narrowed , without halfshaft's or brakes fitted . When not narrowed and fully kitted with brakes they weight over 100 kilo's
, i took a picture of it on the scales minus the brakes and halfshafts

and here's after painting

I also brought some rear calipers for the Camaro off ebay and they will be fitted along with the bigger front brakes over winter . The car will have 325mm front discs and 305mm rear discs instead of 280 mm front discs and rear drums , this should make a big difference in trying to stop the Chevy

i love ebay bargains. Pete:Chevy_anim:

Been getting complaints from the family about the smell of paint coming from the garage so i have decided to do something about it for a quiet life . The garage in parts has a single skin wall and i think some of the paint smell is getting into the house through that , and i have been wanting to put up a block wall there for ages . I brought a pallet of blocks , big bag of sand and some 100mm insulation and got to work putting up the wall . Iam not a builder or anything but i have laid blocks before and iam well pleased with the resulting wall . I sprayed some bits after i put the wall up and nobody noticed so thats stopped the complaints:) .Took the best part of 3 weekends to do but then iam not a bricky but its straight and does the job , very happy . Iam double happy because i have found a build thread of a 60s Camaro where the guy doing it actually understands about suspension , he is building it for autocrossing and the thread has loads of good info on it . He has raced stuff from CRXs to Vipers and wants to build an old Camaro thats not slow around cones , its one the best bits of info on old Camaros that i have found . Pete
Pictures of a wall , how exciting .
