Powder coating alloys

Post by pablo »

I read somewhere that having alloy wheels powder coated can weaken them and can cause them to crack/fail under extreme conditions such as track use.
Has anyone else heard of this happening or is it safe to do?

It's only unsafe if you go to someone that doesn't know what they are doing. Ask the company you intend to use how they powdercoat wheels and take it from there.......

Yes, you have to be careful. I had my Advans wet sprayed for that reason. The temp of the oven can affect the structure of the alloy.

I have never came across this problem,my brother does powder coating for a living

I also had my volks hand stripped and sprayed.

However I would take advice directly from the firm you intend to use.
