So, spent the day on the GTR.

Main job was to put the new diff in. I ended up getting one from Mark at MGT who had the 1.5 way from his old R33 race car diff sitting on the shelf. He didn't know what it was - it's nigh on impossible to tell, especially when they're in the case all built up - bu assured me it was good, and tight. So this seemed a good option as I could just bolt it on and go rather than have to strip the old one etc. Plus of course, saved me a bit of money (a rare thing indeed if it's a gtr flavour purchase).

Well, it's certainly tight! Fuck me what a noise it makes. I know tight LSDs bang and knock and moan but this thing sounds like a cement mixer on lock at v low speed. Concerningly so in fact. But we'll see, it's ok in a straight line, not noisy at all etc, so I'm going to try it and see how it goes.

I asked Mark what oil to run in it and he said Motul 75/90 would be ok. I'm wondering if I should put something else in like 90PA...? Need to decide before it goes on track I spose.

We also had the front camber arms off following knocking out the shoulder at rockingham and the allignment guys claiming they couldn't get more than 1.5 deg neg on them. Was going to cut them up which apparently is quite common thing to do to extend the thread.

However, we managed to get load more turns on and according to the guauge am now running -2.6 deg neg on the front. So I'm happy with that, it just relaly pisses me off that these fools can't jsut do their job and set the car up in the first place. We put the guage on the rear and seemingly these didn't have the same amount of camber on them either - perhaps explains some rubbing when i ragged it up the road the other day

As I need it alligned again we also stuck another +10mm on the rear ride height as i think it was still low relative to the front.

Still, it looks pretty cool with all the camber at the front, and I'm looking forward to trying out the new diff, provided of course it isn't fucked...

Spoke to Opie Oils yesterday (who incidentally I couldn't recommend highly enough, have bought lots from them and the guys are (seem) genuinely knowledgable and understand what your issues are/oil solutions are. Both their recommendations - gearbox and engine - have done what they promised so far.

They said I should put 75 140 LS gulf competition in the diff as it's a cover all bases option. I put 75 90 in so that was a waste of money..... Anyway have ordered that and it's going in tomorrow. Way I see it is that once i know the right oils in it, if it still grumbles but works ok on track then it's ok, and if it shits itself it's going back.

Will also get alignment done tomorrow.

However, my admittedly little brain keeps coming back to a potentially different route to follow with the gtr so things may change again.....

Give us a clue chief...are you talking about 'simply' dropping a VR38DETT/VK45DE with full OS sequential box into the old girl (or that kind of change) or are you talking about a complete change of direction TOTB/BDC/salt flats/Drag/Hill climb/worlds first gerbil powered flying GTR etc :)
[img] Q. If you were stranded on a desert island, who would you rather be stranded with....Ray Mears or Bear Grylls?

A. No question....Ray Mears....you could make a shit load more stew out of that tubby little fecker [/img]

All of the above :) Actually the opposite. I'm thinking of sanitising it a bit so I can use it on the road too. Just a thought at the moment....

So, put the new oil in and got the alignment done. Amazingly I got the front camber so spot on with the help of Daz's guauge they didn't even alter that

So I took it for a good caning tonight and I'm smiling again, a lot! The diff has transformed it and I just couldn't stop painting 4 888 flavour lines round the roundabout on a junction off a certain large London ring road.

That GTR magic would appear to back with bells on :driving:

Sweet news, now hopefully you will have time to sort out some onboard footage when you next take the beast out to play on track. So we can all experience the beast:auto:
