Well Ben ive finaly fitted the new linkage today!:D
I decided i was having today off, No pissing about with clio`s, No helping my mum out. So i was quite suprised to find that it was not raining when i got up this morning. So i thought, Bugger it lets do that bloody linkage on the golf and then have a family trip out round the coast in it.
I have to be honest and say it was a total breeze compared to the water pump! I did have to phone a friend (Thank you steve!) when it came to the gearbox mount part of the linkage as the new one had a cut off bracket that didn`t reach from the diff across to the up mount on the subframe. After speaking to steve i decided to leave my bracket in place
Compare the old still oil soaked from the old oil cooler seal problem with the new up-rated one.

You can see what had failed on my linkage and was making fifth gear such a problem.

As i had been told the worst part of the swap was setting the new linkage in the correct place. The first attempt (and i thought id got it first try!-Ha) Saw first gear taking the place of reverse - whoops! But this was soon corrected. Now the gearchange is so sweet!:hurray:
This is the linkage now fitted to a rather filthy engine (I wish my bay looked like mikes.:(

We had a great afternoon out in the old gal. She even got a good clean before we went.

This trip out and giving her a wash has given me another problem though.... Emma has told me that i absolutly must not ever think of selling it, Even sat in the passenger seat she says she loves it! It looks like i will be loosing it this week as she has blagged it for herself to go to work in, Now its fixed!

I have done a few more little jobs on the golf over the last few weeks so i thought it was time for a bit of an update.
It had been leaking a bit of coolant from the flange joint at the front of the block (it had been doing this for quite a while) It was no surprise when i got the old one off.
Image
Surprise, surprise it had been fitted with a mixure of two 10mm bolts and an allen bolt! With a sealant gasket that had given up. It has now been replaced with three matching bolts.
Image
I then gave the manky engine bay a little clean up. It still has a long, long way to go but it is not so shameful as it was (still after the oil cooler seal let go)
Image
The other jobs done are the exhaust rubbers have been replaced. It has now lost its churping bird noise it used to have on idle with the old worn out ones. And the missing nearside front jacking cover has been replaced with a new one.:)
I spent the whole of yesturday polishing it inside and out. Even attacking the passenger door which was letting the outside down with the mop and G3. It took bloody ages but i am quite happy with how it came out. I did take some pictures with my phone but they didn`t store.:( This is the only picture i have after the days cleaning.

I had planned on taking the family off to bugjam for the whole weekend but after ourselves having not been since 2004 (due to the then changing atmosphere) and speaking to many friends including Trev all of them saying its not what it used to be, We settled on going just for the day today.
Well what a day! I am now so totally in love the old thing and so proud of it! Bugjam now has a park and ride system with no driving off site once you are in. And day parking is in carparks along the access road before the main gates. Long story short, We were directed to the main gates because of our disabled son. But from then on we were directed past the disabled parking all the way to the show and shine area.:D Ok it might have been due to the fact that we were inside the gates (and therefore deemed to be weekenders?) And were in a shinney car and not caked in mud like everything else there? I want to belive it was thought worthy? I did bottle it when we got round the track to the show and shine area as i knew the mine was not upto the standards that i saw infront of me. The waether was fantastic and the golf was brilliant and didn`t miss a beat even when faced with an hour and forty five minute que to get out! I guess thats karma for sneaking into parking that we shouldn`t have been in?
I was asked to take photos (sorry Stu) but i didn`t (I never do- my pictures are crap!) The ones here are better than i would have taken.

No mate! I would have been seriously embaressed. There was a black turbo`d mk2 running low 10`s and so many bugs running low 11`s and the proper drag bugs running 8`s!
The whole rat look still gets under my skin. Though there was one in our party that it seemed to have made an impression on...
My only (poor) photo of the day was of my lad sticker bombing his face while bored in the car whilest we que`d on the way out.:sifone:
