My new car

Post by Tonynos »

As most of you will know I had to sell the Evo because of health, money and marital issues. I really couldn't get my head around buying a shitter until the divorce is all settled so I went out and bought this.

It's a 55 plate 206 GTi 180 with just over 36000 miles and has full service history.
After having it for nearly a week it went back to the Peugeot dealer as I had a few little problems with it. They've replaced the water pump as it was leaking so had to do the cam belt at the same time. They've loaded an update to the ecu as it didn't like starting when hot and they replaced a ball joint as it was knocking. Hopefully that'll be it but it has got a 6 month warrentee so if I do have anymore problems they can sort them out.

There are a few things I'd like to do to it like lowing springs or coilovers and a set of dark wheels but they'll have to wait for now. My finger has slipped on the buy it now button on eBay a couple of times already though  I got a K&N Typhoon induction kit and grooved discs and Mintex pads for front and rear as the brakes aren't great after being used to the big K Sports on the Evo. Hopefully the weather is a bit better later in the week so I can get my hands dirty and fit them.

It's great fun to drive and the sound of the exhaust plus the pops and bangs it makes on over run now it's running on Tesco 99 put a grin on my face.

I do miss the Evo and the big kick in the back when it came onto boost but things aren't all bad as the Pug is so much easier to drive around town and is plenty quick enough for the driving I'm doing at the minute.

Love this!!
Couple of silly questions
1. Is this the same 2.0 unit used in the Clio's? According to Wikipedia (when is that ever wrong ;) The EW10 J4S variant is a high performance version used in the 206 RC, 307 F

I've no idea if it's the same engine as the Clio as I haven't done any research about the car to be honest. All I know is it's 2ltr and sounds nice :blush5:
Chris ex APT took me around the handling circuit at Marham in his Clio 172 and it handled lovely but when I drove a Clio I didn't really like it. The only thing I have found with the Pug is that I have to have the seat a long way back other wise my feet catch on a silly shelf that's above the pedals but now I've got used to it I quite like the driving position.

Wheels are a bit of a pain as most wheels need spacers to fit. I had the same problem when I had the 306.

If I go for wheels that need spacers it'll be one of these

Or no spacers it'll be Team Dynamics Pro racer 1.2

Very nice car Tony and should still give some giggles when driving. After so much crap you deserve to have something to smile about:)

For the sake of comparison yours books at 177ps, as does mine (We all know its been a while since some of mine turned up for work)
Yet yours seems to weigh 1125 and mine 1322, the 206 must seem quite frisky.
Good work!

The standard wheels are pretty clean but I've never been a great lover of 5 spoke alloys. They might look better if they were gun metal though.

It was good fun in the wet. It was like a disco on the dash with the traction control light :biggrinjester:

Nice car Tony. Like Ben, I like the standard wheels and reckon an inch or so lower would look great without compromising the day to day stuff. A darker refurb would look pretty nice too, but as a daily, I probably wouldn't do a lot more.

Your choice matey.....

I'm not going to be able to afford to do much with it once I have to pay the ex off so it will be staying pretty much as is. My days of spending loads of money on modding cars is over for now :(
