Thanks Mike
May stick with the tried and tested route of fitting the seat I think.
Some very dubious advice on some forums (this one included sometimes) so I'll go with trusted first hand knowledge from people who do stuff rather than read about it :D

Logan
Two months eh? As long as that?! :D
Aron
You have got to be fucking kidding :D That seat wouldn't fit one arse cheek, let alone both of mine and why would I want to swap a

Stu, been watching this thread build with a mixture of surprise (for the early loss of interest in the 5) and amusement - it's becoming an almost monthly thing :D

I honestly don't know where you find the time to do all the research on the various forums, find the bargain cars, and bits, then hang them on the car :smilielol5:

As for the Vr6, great car, great price and great potential - The one at Marham was :coolgleamA:

I just can't get my head around the slush box. Even if you aren't tracking it surely you of all people will just hate it, and with that big heavy engine and no engine braking the brakes are gonna die before the end of your drive...?

I suppose that if the rest of it's sound, at

Short answer
MX5 will stay on the road until November (ish) when the Golf will swap over. This gives me a few months to get shit sorted out for Grace as a reasonable daily with some tricks up its sleeves :)

Longer answer
I can't lie, if I had the choice between two cars, same spec, same price and same mileage and condition; one auto and one manual, I would have bought the 'manwell'. The bargain nature of the car made me a lot more accepting of its gearbox. If it proves worthwhile long term I see this as being a better fast day to day car with the odd splat on a circuit being an option. I actually quite like, no, really like auto's for daily used cars and with the acoustic edge sharpened, the handling and braking sharper and power turned up a bit I'd be quite happy. Factor in the frankly fucked up price and I will be very smug indeed. I always loved my black mk2, way beyond a sum of its parts, but lusted for a modern engine in there. The VR6 could replace the old girl in my affections- we'll see.

The Mazda's handling is stunning. With more power, and Jesus Christ does it need it, it could be pretty good on a track. I will only be confident in taking that on with a few more quid behind me (as in thousands). By the time I save up that much I will almost certainly be bored shitless with it, and sacked it off for something like an Elise or a few months of work instead :D

Fuck knows..........I don't know what I'm having for breakfast; how the Hell do I really, realistically do I know what car I'll be dicking about with in a few months? ::)

Truth be told, my attention span for all of this stuff waxes and wanes all of the time so I won't make any promises.

As for dying before I get to the end of the drive, that's actually a very real possibility. I have considered insuring Tan to drive it

Makes sense, and is what I'd expected you to say.

Have to admit I agree on the auto for a dd. I love the auto in the rangey, yet it was not many years ago that I literally couldn't get my head around why anyone would ever chose one. I honestly think that if I go back to the tow car / sports car daily rather than the do it all SUV route i will get a flappy paddle cos it will spend 95% of it's time in auto mode.

Also agree on the Mx5 and thought you'd think that after a while. Great cars, great handling, just not enough poke. Now those BBR turbos (see latest Evo mag) must be almost the ultimate "cheap" lightweight road/track car.

Just to put you off in advance a friend of mine had an Elise which he never shut up about. I drove it and thought it was shit. but then it was the same thing as the mx, just didn't have the power to interest me, fuck the handling.

Anyway, good luck with Grace. Will watch your progress and hope to catch up with you soon. V jealous about the berg cup trip! Talking of trips, Le Mans this year? I'm there again...

I've driven the Elise 111S and R and loved them both buddy :) I do however take your point though. Unless cars have a fundamental amount of power they will always struggle with being a bit of a disappointment. An eBay turbo kit nearer the time of next Spring could be one option but as I said, I'd be bollock deep into more power needing more cooling, more speed needing more grip, more speed needing better brakes.......

Le Mans would be nice but I am already taking the piss out of Tan with one trip abroad without her (on our anniversary too which was a nice touch I thought :leaving: ) so buggering off again to another foreign motorsports event may be a shade too much.

Another year mate as I'd love to experience it sometime.

Interesting. I was really underwhelmed. It had a full quicksilver zorst and various bits an my lasting impression of it was lots of noise and no go. steering, great, feel great, but the lack of power just killed it for me, even ruined the admittedly good handling just becasue I wanted a slug of power when needed and the car just couldn't deliver.

Roger that, swerving anniversaries never goes down well. Still, always next year, linton, myself, whiffin and co will no doubt be heading over.

Sorry for the late reply, been on holiday, Didn't get the chance to weigh the track golf but lloyd did weigh he's stock one I seem to think it was <1200kg he said that he think 32mm for the arb rings a bell but can check if you really want to know! fitting the bucket seats was done using the original seat sub frames as lloyds just over 5 feet tall he needs to be able to move the seat up to see over the steering wheel, very easy job but they weigh loads. The cars will be sold or broken so if you want the car/ parts let me know.
