what you need is an older car, less sensors, more simple.....oh bugger I just sold that!
Audi A4 2.0 FSI
Thanks for the reply Russ
The Mazda did look good, but if I'm going derv I'd like to try and get more than low 40's to make all the noise worth it
A4 Tdi seems ideal, reasonable power with low 50's mpg
Tempted to have a look at this...

I hate admitting it but im realy becomming a big supporter of this whole VAG rules thing. My golf is great and the A6 has now notched me up 15000 miles of bliss comfort since september.
However as i needed a van and had to be lez compliant i bought a vauxhall combo cdti the other week. It broke down on the drive home (no come backs it was a trader to trader sale) It broke down the next day as well
. It turned out to be nothing more than a gummed up turbo, But after taking it to a few trusted garages with better diagnostics than me to find out what the problem was they both said vauxhall cdti..........yuk!
Connected to what i said earlier and electrics. There is a bp member (who i expect will read this) And is a bloody good mechanic that a few years ago was a total vauxhall nut (i was sure that if you cut him in half he would have had vauxhall written through him) But due to the modern faults he now has a e36 bmw and his good lady had an A6 sportback tdi!
The Audi looks nice on autotrader and by all accounts the 1.9 is a real slogger and will go on forever.
I dont know if Gerry H still has his A4 avant? The last time i spoke to him he was thinking of selling it? Nice 2003 2.5 v6 tdi?:D
Good luck and i hope you find a good `un.
