Maff........just as bad but the hardtop is a bit more solid than the Elise soft top

Better to be out there in something like this than not at all I reckon. It's good fun on the twisties now and that's before decent tyres, better suspension etc

Nice one Stu, I was thinking about you today and how the deal was going to go. It certainly looked a tidy example and these are pretty bullet proof.
As Gary said there are parts and parts and parts galore for them so plenty of choice. But stay away from the chrome stuff

Racing Beat my arse, there is a same shape spoiler thats a bit bigger at the ends for the RX7 but its not a racing beat one. Glad you removed it though as it was the only thing that I didn't like. Remember when mum had her MX5 the hardtop made it more like a 'normal' car than just the roof. Worth more than a few hundred quid though.

One of these is still on my list to own one day but can't get away with 3 cars

A few more bits done today. Removed the hardtop to see what the condition of the soft-top is like, but also to enable me to get the hardtop ready for painting.

This gave me the opportunity to remove the polished stainless Winbo roll bar and some other odds and sods.

The eagle eyed among you will have clocked that the passenger seat was taken out to check how much room can be saved. Removal was a doddle and swapping the Corbeau's for the stock seats will give me around the same leg room but another 50mm of head room. If I get the channels out that support the OE seats, I may be able to get another 15mm space, so we're definitely getting somewhere. Another quick win in terms of interior space was taking out the door handles and using webbing straps instead. My camera had died by that point but they look a lot like this

The soft-top itself was nothing special. A tear in the rear 'window' had been disclosed as had a small nick in the roof section by the drivers side. It is still showerproof but I wouldn't want to run the risk of this for anything beyond an absolute emergency so I'll look into the prices of new hoods or carpet tape

(I did put the rear window back in by the way)

I cleared a small barn near our stables and have parked the Mazda up in there. It's great to get the car stashed away out of the cold and wet, and it will give me the chance to get it up on stands and waxoyl the thing. Further to that I can get the engine bay wiring tidied up and get the front wings off. One of the wings needs changing and it will enable me to check and treat the chassis legs whilst I am at it.

Good progress mate, and it looks a sweet wee thing with the roof off. (Added bonus to 27 miles of headroom too

When I took the seat out totally, I sat in there to see what it was like. Perfect!! I was tempted to cut up one of Tan's exercise mats and just sit on that instead of a seat; think of the weight saving
