Road Trip for a mate........

Post by Rob S »

.......I'm sure we've all been there. A mate at work has had a series of pretty crappy cars considering he's such a petrol head, and has been after a "decent car" for quite a while.
He managed to acquire a tidy S3 last year, only for it to become the wifes car. Recently he's been on (and on and on ;)) about getting a B5 S4 Avant, and we've spent ages trawling all the usual haunts looking for the hypothetical car.
We stumbled across a shocking advert on eBay for a 98 model in Imperial blue, with RS4 wheels, a good history and decent mileage.
Slight issue was it was in bloody Gwent!
Google showed it to be 150 ish miles, so after further rubbish photos, and the revelation that the car would come with an all singing all dancing warranty for 15 months, Andy arranged to do a viewing.
I said I'd help if he was stuck, and before we knew it, we arranged going after work. Work being what it is, we left two and a half hours late, and headed across country armed with energy drinks and cash!
It transpired to be in the @rse end of nowhere, and best part of 200 miles and nearly five hours away:headhack:
We arrived in the rain and gloom on a hillside in the pitch black, and were greeted by a very tidy looking car. The owner was charming but played the "I don't know much about it, the garage look after it for me" routine whenever I asked why something was broken or misaligned.
It sounded sweet as nut, with no knocks, rattles or whines and the paintwork was in bloody good nick for the years and the miles.
They have an amazing spec for an older car, and having made a deal, we had a long drive back to Essex with this

The pictures really did nt do it justice, and while not perfect, you should have seen his face when he went past us like a bloody rocket enjoying the thrust of 6 cylinders and two turbos!!
Cars, don't you just love them:hurray:

I got in at 330 this morning and had to be back in after I'd done the school run mate, jaded is a valid term at the minute.
It was worth it to see him grinning at the car as it was parked up afterwards :)
We've all got the same sickness on here........

Andy is looking at some options with wheels, and is already exploring remap options. I'll be suggesting he speaks with APT before long!
