I think the findings of an elderly 7 series with many, many owners would prove quite worrying. The owner that I bought it from seemed a nice enough chap and very helpful, but you just can't be sure.

So it's been two weeks with my 2.0 8v, I have to say I feel the two litre has been unfairly judged, it's actually a great little car, handling is really quite good, power delivery smooth (ok sedate), however really pleasent and even brings a good old smile to my chops.

Good to hear Ben.
Are you revelling in the no worries driving experience mate?

(You've prompted me to do a reflective ownership post on the 7 too.)

It's really quite nice turning a key and driving without warming up cooling down, I need to sort a knock from the front suspension, I think i'll just replace all the shocks and springs, the droplinks, a frames and associated joints ... and all for STANDARD parts :) ...

Then off to chris for the body to be sorted .. both rear arches are dented, the front wing is rusty, the door protectors need painting, a key scratch on the rear flank plus each arch needs a slight tidy i.e scratches ... but still a nice cheap runabout that is a really a fine car. The MK4 really wasn't given the accolades it deserves.

Also I've noticed, prior to owning this car I had no interest in MK4's .. now that I have one, and this one in particular I have as much love for it as I did my MK2.

Now toying with whether or not to take a friends MK4 Jazz Blue 1.8T 3 door, montreal alloys, blue recaro seats ... will have a looky shortly - but then how many MK4's do I need ? ...

The conclusion I have come too is that VW do make damn good cars
