Need a career change

Post by BIGBIMMA »

AS TITLE , FANCY A CHANGE OR CHANGE OF SCENERY .
stuck in a rut in my current place of work and need to do something different .
quick spec on me ;
42 yrs old , 25 yrs in the motor trade , bodyshops and valeting , been running my own valeting / detailing business for the last 11 yrs , but being a slave to big dealerships is wearing thin now .
working my ass off for sod all has lost its appeal .
will consider anything as long as i can pay the bills .
so anyone got any fulltime permanent jobs going ?
i live just outside kings lynn . full clean lisence
sensible replies please .
cheers

I had a similar notion to this in 2006-2007. I'd run my own business for about 9 years and waved the white flag. The time since has been difficult, I'll be honest. 2011, early five years on, and at last the smoke is starting to clear and now the decision to change is making sense.

Do you work with dealerships through financial necessity or convenience? Being self employed or employed has pros and cons. I think I made the right decision overall but then I could never moderate my way of working (hence 7 days a week for 6 years) so the change to employment/contracts helped me to shift down a few gears. Like I said earlier, it's been difficult.

Not being rude Les, but is now the right time to change? What do you want to do with your life? (earn more? work less and sacrifice income? re-train?) Maybe there could be ideas within your existing business that will enable you to take a new challenge, avoid boredom, get excited again, remain your own boss and make a few quid?

http://www.jobsite.co.uk is very good. Monster on here is an employment consultant who may be able to help.

Best of luck with whatever you decide. Happy to have a natter in more detail if you want :D

i,m just fed up with it all to be honest . i am not a racist or anything like that in any shape or form but the foreign immigrants coming into the country in recent months has made my business unsustainable now . prime example is a firm i know of now only have immigrant workers working for them and they have been in to a dealership i work for and tendered for the contract . problem i have is there workers are willing to work for around

good luck with your future plans Les ,work does seem very price related at the moment rather than what service / goods are being supplied imo.

time to close the thread , as i will be starting a new job on monday , about as far from the motor trade as you can get .
i will be working with some one who is involved in the race horse industry .:beatdeadhorse5: cant say too much as i have to sign secrecy disclaimers etc as its a very cut throat industry .
needless to say i am looking forward to the relaxed working enviroment and slower pace .
no more stress and i dont have to sell my car:party:
but i do have to sell my van , will be in the for sale section shortly .
onwards and upwards as they say
