Mazda RX7 FD3S (Rex)
Right, update time. After finding odd things with the coolant I filled it up and filled it and filled it because the level wasnt going correct. Then it decided to come out of the overflow tank area and dribble all down dads drive so after following some advice from FDUK I tried siphoning a load from the overflow tank and then filling again.
But again despite me removing loads and not filling where the overflow tank level was it just kept disappearing and disappearing and then leaking again from the overflow tank area. FFS this bloody car will be the death of me !!!
By then I had to go and visit dad so the car was left.
Therefore I am gonna have to bite the bullet and take the undertray off, get it in the garage (rear first !!) and jack it up and have a good look and drain the whole coolant system. I suspect it could be a split overflow tank or a split pipe somewhere. But as to why it isnt filling properly I have absolutely no idea. Coolant is the bane of a rotary engine but without it the housings dont last long !!
Anyway by doing the above I can at least rule out dodgy pipes.
But.......I might as well sort some other jobs while I am doing it. The first is a vmount kit I have been hording since last summer, it's a secondhand PWR kit which comes with a bigger radiator and intercooler mounted in a V configuration. Its the one that all the guys who run trackdays here and at the Ring use. Managed to get it at a very reasonable price. Anyway here is a pic of it fitted:

I spent some time cleaning the radiator pipes which went from this:

to this

Also gave the intercooler a clean

Obviously being secondhand its a bit dirty but should be fine for my light use
However to fit it will involve moving the battery to the boot, removing the aircon, doing something with the power steering lines etc etc. Not the easiest job but definitely worth it in the long run. But it will be off the road for a bit
Anyone up for giving me a lift to Snetterton for the Time Attack
Also managed to get some secondhand carbon but painted skirts:

I originally wanted to go for some OEM Mazda Skirts like Pantera Chris has but after waiting months and months and not seeing any these came up and I jumped in. To give you an idea they look like this on Miguels (Newera and the biggest inspirational RX7 for me) car:

Anyway sorry for the long post, thought you might be interested ?

Ha ha ha oh yeah sorry I meant to say it was a car like mine with it fitted. But can see how that would be confusing. Would have loved to have done all that work on mine but to be honest I am not going for the track look interior, something like Miguels would do just fine.....

Oh and Ben, it will be in bits next weekend

Right an update today. I shall summarize and say that today was a successful day where everything went right including the glorious weather.
Anyway.....
after worrying all week about whether I could get my car backwards in the garage and have enough room to work in the engine bay I got up at the crack of dawn to get down to it. (friday night was spent clearing the end of the garage out.....I know how to live dont I !!!)
Car reversed out, warmed up, undertray off and then the moment of truth. Thankfully though the car went back in with the least amount of fuss and with plenty of room at the end where the garage door is even with it jacked up.
So car jacked up, coolant drained (boy was it dirty!!) and so the removal of stuff for the vmount begins....

Took a while removing everything inc air induction stuff, battery, intercooler, radiator and pipes, aircon rad and some of the pipework (Pantera Chris, email coming your way!!) it finally was clear....

Look how empty it is in there !!
There is a power steering bracket thingy that needs moving next but to be honest after pinging a rad hose clip into the side of my head causing a bit of claret and the weather starting to grey over I have finished for today.
Overall though exactly where I wanted to be today. Once I move the power steering rad I can drop in the new one and its brackets. Did test fit them and the new rad sits very low which I dont think will be a problem but will have to see.
Waiting on some stuff from Japan also to help with some of this stuff.
