To 4x4 or not to 4x4

Evening

Okay, i'm going to drop a huge bomb from the outset. i 'may' be shifting the Supra within the next couple of months, mainly for financial reasons. So i did think about some usual cheap fast replacements. However, i have a real perv on for getting a 4x4. They're tough (you know that i always manage to break something on cars) i wouldn't have to worry about leaving it in a car park for long periods of time when im out, and i've always wanted to go exploring. Even on my own doorstep there are so many offroad areas to go and have a wander through.

So, pros and cons for both.

Supra:
Pros; looks awesome, quick, rare car to own at 24, the birds love it

Cons; FUEL, front half of exhaust will need replacing, interior rattles, bodywork will need doing, worrrying about where i leave it, if i break something - im in trouble.

Pajero SWB:
Pros; can go anywhere, tough, wont have to worry about leaving it anywhere, lots of potential for fun, cheap modifications, wont have to OCD on cleaning. Dad has a LWB. can sit on the roof crate and have a bbq with someone

Buy a subaru forester Turbo S, go anywhere off road ,well the one's i have seen with dags in the back seem to ,still use it for trackdays ,don't worry where it is left . Happy day's. As for 4x4 mods being cheap that is bollocks you just do more of them lol i've just bought the creme del a creme of 4x4's for shooting season

Really? they look like they have an awfully low under carriage? Besides, too much money for me mate, dearer than what i paid for the Supra

i should clarify for everyone else that i mean the cheap diy mods like the body lifting, accessory retrofits, home made snorkles/roof crates etc

What 4x4 did you get Jason?

Shame you weren't after one a few months back as you could of had my old mans very well looked after SWB manual Pajero cheap. To be honest I wish I had somewhere to keep it as I would of loved it myself.
It's a pity about the Supra but like you said it's going to be an expensive car to run and keep in top condition.

My advice would be go for it mate!
You are young and free so why not get through as many different types of cars as you can.
Regret the cars you ve had, not the ones you have n`t!:thumbs:

If it's something that you've always wanted to do then go for it, you're only young once, so they say.

I've had my Frontera for 3yrs now and the fecking thing won't die.......The bonnet catch has been broke for at least 6 months so couldn't open the bonnet, the exhaust has been blowing for the last year but doesn't get any worst and it gets washed everytime it rains. The leather seats are worn and the sunroof leaks a bit..........

I love my tonker toy truck, great tow vehicle, comfortable and comes with a picnic table of a dash:sifone:

I'm probably from the other camp having owned my rx7 for 6 years (which as most of you know hasn't been plain sailing), an escort before that and a Volvo before then, so not much in the way of car history compared to most people on here. Keep the Supra if it is your dream car, if you got a 4x4 are you really likely to go off road in it ? Don't rush to sell just on what seems a good idea at the time.

As for your cons for the Supra,
Yep fuel thirsty (nothing you can do although you must have known it would be !!) ,
Interior rattles (all cars rattle but jap ones are worse but it's usually the metal clips holding the trim in that can have rubber washers put on etc to help),
Bodywork (yep we can all go there but you don't see that when driving

),
Worried where you leave it (was exactly like you on this when I got mine, now I'm of the opinion that if someone nicks it I will be gutted but it's insured and will get the money for another one),
Worried about breaking it ( the Internet is full of guides to fix things so I wouldn't worry about this, I never thought I'd have got my hands dirty on mine but seeing the guides gave me the confidence)

I can't say I have never looked at other cars and would love an integra, an mx5, a scoob, a BM coupe, an NSX and an R34 GTR but every time I look I keep coming back to the Rex. My advice is to go with what your heart says rather than your brain.

If you went 4x4 you should be able to keep the Sup and get something for under 1k that will give you that. There are some amazing bargains out there at the mo. Am trying to convince Em we need an MX5 in addition to my car but not working at the mo
