roll on the next bigpower day
BigPower event@Richard Burns Memorial Aug 13th and 14th event
Well, I didn't post after yesterdays antics so I will try to sum up the two days in one hit.
Yesterday started off a bit warily after turning up at the base at 7 O'clock ( Way before Daniel
) only to be greeted by the bloody rain
.
I sat around for a while and then the rain eased off and along came Dan in his Supra. A lovely sound as he burbled toward the weird bloke in the big orange coat who was waving at him (me
)
We stood chatting as a poorly Ben turned up along with a warning that he may vomit without any notice or worse
but credit where it's due he stayed longer than I did
Then others arrived including Stu, Russ, Pete etc. Stu made a call to try to find out where the cones were to be informed that the were on the way. This was around 8:30 I guess. The rain continued as did the arrival of other exotic metal and drivers to enjoy the hoonage of the day.
Eventually, around 10 ish we decided that the cones were a lost cause and Stu and I decided that the huge pile of old tyres over by the hanger would be good enogh to lay out the track so Stu, Dan and I loaded up my van with the tyres and proceeded to chuck them at Russ and he and Dan started laying them out in a track like fashion. Just as we put the last couple of tyres in place, the bloody cones turned up so we dotted a few of them about in the relevant positions and got cracking with the whole point of the day, car abuse!
The first few runs were obviously quite tame as Trev did a few sighting laps in Jaffa to let us know where we needed to "tweek" a few things and then things really got under way.
Despite the rain things were going really well and only got better as the day progressed and the weather improved as did the grip as the track dried out.
My memorable moments of yesterday were Christian peddling the Gtr round the track with awesome precision and skill, Pete throwing the Camaro around on a tight course which sometimes resulted in a "reversing manoeuvre" to get back on the right track (so to speak), Ian in the MkI Escort and the noise it makes (WOW), Trev wringing Jaffas neck and coming across the finish line sideways, Jason taking the Rodeo around with lots of sideways action and the battles including Russ and Eddy spuring each other on.
Unfortunately I had to leave about 2 ish to get back for a wedding but even so I had a great day.
Then on to today.............
My day did not start well as i had to raise the suspension on the Gtr as it was still rubbing and then I jumped into the van to go to Marham and discovered that I had around an inch of travel on the clutch pedal and couldn't get it into reverse so I had to sort that out too before I could go anywhere.
I finally got to Marham at around 10.45 and saw that there fewer cars there than yesterday but some different ones none the less. So I grabbed a burger and got on with things while Stu and Russ were running each others cars which was a laugh to see them trying to beat each others times in the respective cars.
The day was slower than yesterday but this did work to my advantage in that I got to take the mighty Cupra for a few runs which was great fun. I was amazed at how similar it was to driving the old MkIII Golf. Then Russ offered me a few runs in "Old Yella". Well, What can I say? As some of you will know, I have never been a fan of Scoobies but I will admit, (Hold on to your hats
) I loved it. I feel at the time that i understated this somewhat to Russ as I said something like "that was interesting"
I did however say to Stu a bit later that if it wasn't for the fact that it would probably end in me getting a divorce ( my wife hates Scoobies alot
)I would love a wagon like Yella. The power delivery, the sound, the grip ( apart from the few understeery bits
) basically as a package it is superb. I would like to thank the two of you very very much for allowing me to abuse your respective cars. It made my day even better after missing out on bringing the E36 for a thraping.
The guys who were there today were having plenty of runs and the demo from the Mini and Tony Hewitt etc were amazing. Gary, You were amazing too
You have gotta love the spirit of Riley "running" (Literally) the course while mummy and daddy were chatting to us guys and then spotting someone looking at "old Yella" and going over to chat to them about it
The top three of "our guys" today from what I could see on or time sheets were:-
1, Russ with a 39.39 in "Yella"
2, Stuart with a 39.63 in Tonys Evo
3, Chris with a 40.06 in his amazing Renauklt 5 Gordini.
The fastest overall (but we don't count these because he is an instructor at Silverstone and driving a Subaru Cosworth

What a super cool weekend!:hurray: Stu mucho respect for pulling this one out of the bag. If this now becomes an anual event then anybody who misses it next year are super gayers and should think about stamp collecting rather than having an interest in driving fast cars!:D
Group hug alert!!:D:grouphug: What i realy love about our club is the mega spread of cars within it. Take this weekend we have had such a spectrum of cars representing it from petes oh so cool camero and chris`s wonderful gordini 5 to gary`s mental evo and christians madass GTR and almost everything inbetween. All cars within the bp area were fantastic and the best bit was not a knob end in sight! My emma always comments on how family friendly the events are and that the atmosphere is always a good one. Emma has ask me to say a big thank you Dan for the passenger laps she has said you were so calm and controlled it was a blast. She also said something about you being a good driver? But ive choosen to ignore that!:D She loved Garys evo and would have happily been blasted round in that all day until her eyeballs fell into the back of her head i think. Thank you gary for taking us all out that car is just so quick (and that doesn`t seem to do it justice?) My f.t.d on the autotest was broken by gary in one atempt!
I think with the little sleep ive had and the playing all day yesturday i did struggle to get my eye in today on the autotest. So as things were a little quieter today i thought it only fair that stu and nik (who had spent all yesturday running the autotest) go out and have a play. I know Nik is a big subaru fan! Lol! I am just glad that Stu did n`t spend more time in ol yella as his times were just a little bit too close for me be comfortable.
Thank you Stu for letting me have a play in the cupra, it does go well!
Much respect to John for properly running the uber clean soarer! Talking of properly running something, i dont think i have seen a clio run so hard for so long before? Well done chris, i think you done the most runs of the day?
Tonys evo is so clean as well and your photos are supurb mate!
It was nice to see pete and the new family. I hope you have a suitable car to run next time mate?
I could go on thanking people all night!:blush5: I`m just glad that myself and my family were there to enjoy a great weekend!

Glad you guys had a good day today too. I had a family (no cars) day today!
Great news that we will do it again next year.
I did notice yesterday that we did have quite a few spectators so proved it is worth it for the organisers and proves that our club's worth.
