Pinto power here we come
ive had a look in the sir haynes manual and the pinto and cosworth pistons are the same 90.800 mm.
im going over to gordons on saturday and ill measure the depth of the piston from the top to the top of the pivit hole, are you able to do the same with one your pistons as im sure a cosworth piston sits a bit shallower.
when i did a oil, filter, plugs, leads change on my GT it made a difference to my car was just so much smoother to drive.

It doesnt matter about the power mate, as long as you are happy with the car thats all that matters.
Looks a nice car and I hadnt seen this thread until today. Good work on it, was only saying to my dad today that nowadays you hardly see many cars over 10 years old. Nice to see the classics living on.

You are going to have to face facts Rob that there is a lot of love on here for your old sierra. It does nt have to be a snarling track monster or a lustful classic. For me i like the fact its a pure honest genuinly tidy car that makes me smile for what it is.

I do have a well thumbed copy thanks Russ, and will persevere with old girl.
I does run with more "zing" now, as Dave's adjusted the timing, but as the tuning bits I had gathered now seem unsuitable, I'm just going to see what options present themselves. I'm definitely not swapping the engine, or anything drastic like that.

Just a quick update while I think of it.
Did some research on the issue with the cam/valves/pistons and have found the head is most likely skimmed to hell, as the guy who sold it to me runs a car in Lightning Road F2 classes, which backs up the physical appearance as noted by Dave.
Also, the cam should fit ok, so will be looking at probably swapping that out at some point and lobbing it in my head. (Unless the temptation to fit a skimmed head proves too much and it'll fit) The vernier timing pulley is MILES out, so it may well go on after all, time will tell.
I've sold the manifold and back box, and even managed to have someone coming to look at some alloys, so fingers crossed there'll be some money to get this work completed shortly after the house move.
There should be a job change in the mid term which will mean playing with the car will be a bit more likely, so it'll then be a case of saving for a tasty head and a Chester Sports cars set up. Seeing what they can achieve with a Zetec is amazing, but I've not given up on the Pinto just yet...... especially as this could still tick the "old skool" boxes.

Glad to see things are still moving forward:D. Pinto power is the way forward for an everyday retro sleeper:thumbs: Being friends with Alan means we've discussed so many conversions, a few years back he started talking about fitting a RS2000 16v engine into his GT....Great idea.....Problems are though getting a gearbox or bellhouse conversion for when you turn through 90'. Then it's a brake upgrade, custom exhaust, suspension etc. etc.
