Kit Car engine choice

Post by warboys »

OK, so I have been offered a Lotus 7 type kit car, which is great, but its definitely got the wrong engine in it (and Efi Sierra unit).

So the question is, what should I put in it? A car engine? A bike engine? N/A or forced induction? ANy thoughts/ advice?

Road use? Mixed? Track only?
Subject to the answer I would go from torquey car engine, to rev hungry car engine to bike engined screamer respectively.

Having been a fair few, I just can't get the first BEC out of my head. A 460kg R1 engined flying machine.

Any thoughts? Buy the bloody thing

Something rotary, nice and light :)
But I would have thought a Ford zetec engine is most reliable. What about a Honda VTEC engine ?

I'd either bin the efi set up and lob some big carbs on it for cheapo fun, or do the bike carbed zetec route. Not too much money either and reliable power.

Intersting suggestions guys, thank you. An M3 lump is a strange choice.

I was thinking of a Honda F20C lump.

Kit is a Luego Velocity XT

What sierra efi unit is in it at the moment. Is it the 2.0 dohc engine, if so what condition is it in.
