I can't fit head units for shit!

Post by Stuart »

The Alpine that I bought from Tony has at long last found a home in the Cupra :)
Two issues
1) It seems to be too deep from front to back to fit into the car, i.e. it is not flush with the dash when it is pushed all of the way in (or what I perceive to be all of the way) Has anyone experienced this with a head unit before?

2) When I switch the head unit off or remove the keys from the ignition, the head unit loses all of the presets and it's position on the CD

Any ideas? :D

(OK, I am a dumbass :willy_nilly:)

Your constant live and your switched live are the wrong way round!;)
I presume you are using ISO plugs?

Without photo`s its hard, but most aftermarket headunit come with a harness attached and have a the constant live (normaly yellow?) and switched live (normaly red?) they normaly have bullet connectors in them so that the lives can be switched as even though they are standard ISO`s some manufacturers run the lives the other way round. I know that for an out the box headunit normaly peugeot`s have to have the lives switched round.

It is simples mate! Obviously the yellow needs to be live even when the ignition is off to keep the radio stations etc.. in the memory. If it all works as it should but looses the memory when switched off all you need do is find the two wires that are live when the unit is working and then swop them over and all will be dandy!

Seems to be working :D
No hammers used, I promise. One advantage of having a stereo is not having to listen to the waterpump!!

Thanks all.
