Santa Pod 18/03/11

Post by BigFil »

Had a cracking day out with the boys, first run of the year and hoped to carry on where we left off from last season.
Managed a 10.1 @ 134mph with no gas which is a new PB for me running N/A
About 3 o'clock we flicked the gas on with 150bhp jets as we have rewired the nos to activate from the transbrake on launch and wanted to give it a go.
The run was no better and after further investigation we found that the throttle had only been working at 75% all day and wasn't activating the microswitch for the NOS.
The car ran well and I even managed a couple of passenger runs and used the chute for the first time.
Matt had kindly offered to come up and take some snaps

Also have to say well done to Max 1's wife Sarah who ran 11.9 in her skyline - another PB today

Thanks to all the guys and gals who came and helped out and made it a great day

Great result without nos, sounds like everyone had a good day. How much of a jault do you get when you open the chute?

That was epic :D I have sent a link to Dan Booker as he loves your car and anything hardcore at the Pod!

I take it Harry is used to a bit of speed then? He seemed very composed bearing in mind the launch.

He rides moto cross so he is a bit of an adrenaline junkie - I like the way he is looking everywhere up until the launch when he seems to become focused in a hurry :D

He hasn't stopped talking about it since and loved it

They say that the chute is not worth using until you are doing over 150mph and to be fair I was only doing between 135 and 140 but it felt like firm braking at that speed and slowed me to a crawl by the end of the run off.

I wanted to try it while I didnt have too just to make sure it worked OK

The hardest part is keeping your foot in while you are waiting for the chute to take effect, all the big boys said make sure you don't throttle off until you feel the chute but while you are waiting you are still gaining speed and it felt a bit like playing chicken.

You can probably here me throttle off just before the chute takes effect but only because I wasn't sure it was working and was covering so much ground so quickly I hit the brakes just in case

The car weighs in at 1700kgs so the effect of the chute won't be as dramatic as the light weight cars but is a nice thing to have just in case

And of course you get the grin factor while trying it :)

How cool is that, a chute on a road car:thumbs: Can't wait to see your car in the metal.
