Great project thread
You're a brave man restoring one of these.......as for the rust!!! I laughed out loud when you said " There can't be any more rust, surely?" or something along those lines
I love the white on white and Renault 5's are one of my Hot Hatch heroes from when I was a kid. Best of luck. Look forward to seeing the next steps

You have my sympathy with the rot, My first car was a 5GTL that i started welding it up when i was sixteen ready for my sevententh. I lost the will to live with it (i swear it was being eaten by the tin worm in front of my eyes!) so when i passed my test i bought a mazda 323 instead and sold the 5 for

once the speedlines have been painted an anthracite colour, the 17's will be coming off for good as they are rough, lots of kerbing and dents in the rims paint flaking off.
And the 17's are rubbing away the freshly undersealed front chassis legs on full lock so down sizing to 185/55 profile 15's and then maybe some spacers if i need more clearance
kinda worried about ground clearance on 15's and the nurmous speed bumps in my village as the torsion bar caps are missing, they look rather seized in
