New Tyres for 2011...?
basicly time attack are isolating what people can run,
i am absolutley fuming about this (others in same boat)
there are 3 tyres available to us
1, pirelli p zero dont do them in our size
2, pirelli p zero rosso dont do them in our size
3, pirelli p zero nero in our size but id rather run bloody nankangs
as you say jon these are going to feck up after one session
this is going to be a unfair advantage with people like ourselves that carnt run a 18" wheel, the tyre looks like it will over heat after 2 laps.

Yeah, I can understand why you guys are pissed off! Can you not run an 18" wheel set up? Although I guess that would involve more cost and arch rolling etc?
But at the end of the day you'll still be using road tyres on a track car. And as you say, Any of those tyres will be ruined and overheated after a few laps. Crazy decision by TA imo
Surely someone like Kumho or Yoko (who make a competent track tyre) would have been the better choice?

jon, we carnt run 18's as we would have to cut out the arches by a inch and tires would pertrude the body of the car.
we run 205/40/17 on a 18 would have to be 235/35/18 thats way to low for a side wall never mind the front wheels scuffing the inner wings.
im not bothered at all that were using pirelli tires but what i totaly disagree with is they dont offer all 3 ranges in all sizes.
at the end of the day people set up there car by what tires they are using and the end of the day there the only contact with the road, im sure with the bigpower guys the TA is going to be the Time Attack drift championship cuz some guys arnt going to get round corners.
stu your not wrong mate some people have found the tires cheaper else were than getting via time attack.

Just been looking at the comments on the TA forum and there's quite a few people (yourself included) that are far from happyBart wrote:

alot of them are peed off that they carnt get the tire in the size they want which is totally understandable.
if it was the case that everyone had the same tire i wouldnt be bothered at all it sorts the men from the boys not just who as most power (money really) and can drive around the issue, i for one would like to get a set and do a days testing with them as lines, braking points are going to be different, i need to know what kind of feed back im going to get thru the steering wheel and my arse in the seat.
as they said on TA website they done testing comparing pzero against r888 but information is VERY vage the tuscan was 1sec lap faster on r888 and a R35 was 1 sec faster on the p zero BUT they were done at snetterton and brands hatch both power tracks they need to do it on a track like oulton park plenty breaking points, tight corners, change of direction etc.

Copied from TA forum and my reply
I'm sorry but I think this is madness. We were told that we had to buy tyres from toyo as people were importing a slightly softer compound. Now we have the possibility of 2 cars in the same class running totally different tyres.
Podium places in club have were traded in thousands of a second this year. Anyone running the better tyres on 18s will have an unfair advantage.
I don't know what the INS and outs of the deal with toyo were. Their service left a lot to be desired. I just think it's wrong to go into a deal with a tyre company who cannot offer a range of tyres for the entire field.
I'm sure glen has been working extremely hard on our behalf and it's very difficult to keep everyone happy but we have just been asked to replace all our tyres and now it looks like a lot of us would have to buy new wheels too.
Bring back toyo!!! Or at least Yokohama

We have spent the last 12 months developing and working with a new sponsor. Who have designed and manufactured a bespoke brake kit for our car with the aim of moving into the aftermarket tuning indusrty. So for us to consider going to 18" wheels is not an option, we cant even change the colour of our wheels.
That means we are stuck with the Nero's.......a rain tyre.
It's obviously too late in the day to do anything about the tyres, so we are stuck with what we've got. In an attempt to get it back on a level playing field what about running a handicap system for the tyres.
Take 1 car, thats not controlled by electronics so no fancy traction contol etc. and run back to back tests on the nero and the p zero, and NOT at a power circuit, pick a circuit like oulton park, put heat and stress into the tyres. Run the tests over at least 5 hot laps. Take an average of the lap times and there's your handicap,. If one tyre comes out to be an average of 1 sec. a lap qucker then that tyre carries a 1 sec a lap handicap. As there are 3 tyres you could split the handicap down...
eg Nero +0 sec, Rosso +.5 sec , P Zero +1 sec.
Just an idea. We've moaned about the tyres long enough let's try and find a workable solution within the parameters we've got. Could always give them to the drift guys to get rid of most of the tread.....
