Grace. SOLD

After a hastily arranged trip to Bandit country yesterday, I now have a car that features a heater, windscreen washers, a boot that shuts, a stereo, working gauges and a dying waterpump

After a typically drama packed 60 mile drive I met Tk near his lock up and I followed him (when I could keep up) to his unit. Nothing went as planned but after a few hours of Trev swearing, sweating and getting sparks off of my car, Grace was pretty much done and I had Kool and the Gang blaring out of the JVC (TK leant me a spare unit for a while........long story

)

The car drove really nicely on the way home and I only have a couple of small bits to sort (Top mounts are loose, my TonyNOS sourced audio needs fitting properly) and I'll be far happier wragging around in Grace for a little while yet.

After reading about the 1.8t's in this months performance VW mag, I'd be lying if I said 300bhp didn't tempt me.

Front wheel drive for the win

Big thanks to Trev for the motivation, the help, the skills and the time (Not to mention the loan of the speakers, headunit and laughs)

Thanks to Jamie for his improvised fix of the pump for the washer jets

Thanks also to MikeB who had also offered some assistance with this stuff. No reason for going to North Essex rather than South Essex other than a 60 mile round trip saving and a grabbed opportunity. I have to say though, that without guys like Trev, Mike and Jamie (and so many others on here) I would have bombed Grace out ages ago, and that would have been a real shame. Thanks guys

Onwards and upwards. Let's see if a few more of us can get back on track in 2011

The speakers and headunit were all OK weren't they Stuart? They were all working when they were taken out of the Evo.

Yeah, they should be fine Tony. I need to get a harness from the non-existent loom in the car, get the door cards cut (although I could sense that Trev thought this was immoral!) and fit another parcel shelf for the rears)

If we had more time, this would have been easy.

headunit just needs a plug on the back of it, easy enough to pick up from somewhere tony
but without it i was stuffed. time was a ticking after talking bollocks and messing about with wiring under the bonnet getting oil and water temp gauges working the loan stereo was slapped in with speaker wires run to the back

certainly no quality install but it works for now

That's OK then I didn't want you thinking I'd sold you duff gear.

Looking on ebay most of the plugs that go in the back of Alpine headunits are the same so hopefully it shouldn't be to hard to make a harness up.

Bought some new lights, new spotlights and a posh, fandangled 50mm bore Inlet manifold to squeeze another 30 odd horsepower out

When I say new, I mean new to me and I have found out that a very decent local lad has an entire 16v that I can pick apart for bits, so there may be a few more purchases too. Well........there will be. eBay has been very gentle with me!

Grace did another 40 odd miles today and drove really nicely; no complaints at all. It's really nice to be able to type and think that. Chuffed

Berg cup trip is planned and I'll be convoying with Tk and MikeB; both with their exceedingly posh VW's. Grace is definitely the ugly, half chewed Sister of the trio.....any ideas how I can redress the balance prior to the trip? (I don't mean me bashing their cars up

)

I would just keep it simple (he says from the comfort of his reclining chair). Give her a really good wash including inside the wheel arches. A polish with a decent polish and go over all the external plastic trim with a plastic trim wax.
Polish the alloys and slap on some tyre shine.

Then fit some decent speakers and let Trev and Mike know what your listening to as often as possible:D.. Trust me that is so annoying on a journey when someone does that:willy_nilly:
