I remember you saying that you did yours a while ago. Did you buy the bits from Eurocarparts or something? They will need doing, so I guess that may as well go on the shopping list.

Yes stu got all my parts from GSF dirt cheap if you won,t get all the parts together you won,t to change or repair come down to the factory over the holiday.

May be get a couple of us together and hit it hard.

Could also get rob over to do the stereo etc

How's the weather down your part? Trev tells me he has had loads of snow?

Yep it,s very white hear dropped about three or four inches in a couple of hours yesterday

Love it make,s everything look clean and peacefull.

So one question

If my valves were closed for the 9 months that I've owned the car, what effect would this have had on the cooling of the engine? Are there any repercussions from this?

None really, you should now be able to bring temps down a bit more on a summer track day as in theory the effect of having the cabin blower going on hot would very slightly low the water temps whilst roasting you in the cabin.

Summer temperature reductions I can see but I still don't understand these Valves. If they were closed, and therefore not allowing hot air in, was the water circulating through the matrix? If not, surely the water wasn't making a full circuit at all, so why didn't the car overheat?

As to the water pump - when I had the cambelt changed on Kirsty's MKIV Gti we changed the water pump - lucky we did as it had effectively disintegrated .. i.e. only a third of the impellor existed .. so it worked but probably wasn't too effective.
