Be rude not too!
Tell me what I owe you mate, and I'll either send some money over, or paypal to cover it.
Thanks again.
Pinto power here we come
Aaaarrrrrgggghhhhhhh f*%k!!!!
I've set aside tomorrow morning for the work on the car, and as such had to pop into work for a few hours tonight.
I started the car up, pedal a little stiff and though "No, it'll be fine by the time I get to the road", alas, by the time I did, the throttle jammed WIDE open, and although my car has about 45 horsepower, it would appear the brakes are only rated to 40:beatdeadhorse5:
The bastard thing had me nailing the brakes yet still accelerating out of the village heading towards a T junction with a derestricted road.
I have to admit, I've driven in some fairly hairy circumstances, but this was genuinely fucking scary. I ended up lobbing it it fourth thinking it'll be ok, but oh no. I got to about 60, brakes failing and I seriously thought about going off road. Luckliy there was no-one around, so I switched off the ignition and rolled to a sweaty stop.
Once I'd reasoned with the throttle cable, I was ready to go again, but needless to say, this will be getting done in the morning no matter how bloody wet it is.
Who says driving an old underpowered car is boring, I'm off for a jack daniels:gnorsi:

bloody hell mate sounds like a butt clinching moment glad you manged to be ok.
sounds like you have one of four problems.
1. air leak after the throatal body
2. throatal body is stiff (grease external springs and leavers)
3. throatal cable could be twisted or has kinks in it
4. pedal hing could be slightly corrodid or has dirt in the hing, clean and copper slip it.
hope these tips help mate.

Thanks for the comments guys!
All done, having only taken me an hour all in including taking the drivers seat out.
The throttle cable was SO stiff, I could nt pull it through the sheath with pliers
Suffice to say I had a lucky escape, and I think the cables degradation brought about the failing of the throttle quadrant. Now the throttle cables totalled, it nearly took the car with it.
I'm amazed how easy the new cable and throttle body were, fingers crossed my trip to work in the morning is less eventful
