I've been waiting for this
Nice to see some long awaited details up mate. I think that the GTR was always a solid choice, with your two biggest issues being weight reduction in the car and controlling your bloody credit card
I loved my GTR, and it was pretty useful in latter times for track work. As we've discussed, oil surge issues were alleviated in mine through the Accusump unit, but I know that not everyone likes them. The better oil pump, bigger oil cooler and larger sump will all help in controlling the engine though.
Another really useful couple of contacts for GTRs are Gary @ APT and Max1. Gary's built a few 'big' RB's now and Max1's current one has nigh on a thousand horsepower!!
I bet you end up with this in rear wheel drive mode most of the time. The steering lock is pretty crap by your standards so if you need some amended arms, or whatever, you can buy what you need from Driftworks.............see, I'm spending your money again

James - thanks mate, as soon as poss as far as I'm concerned, when is snett shutting? Engine should be back in this weekend.
Stu - Vheers but I need you mate!!!! Daz already has my wallet upside down and my ALL my pin numbers
Ref the accusump I'm with you on it as discussed, and am going to put one on aswell as the sump/additional baffles, this isn't a max BHP build but a track build so safety first.
Weight wise thats coming after the cage and bits like that but aiming to shed a few kgs from the old girl, prob easier than trying to shed them from the helmsman
useful to be able to tap some rerspected guys on here ref skylines though so Gary and Max1 may find themselves PM'd to the max.
I'll try and post the full spec up at some stage, but still have big choices to make about stuff such as:
Do i chuck the PFC d Jetro in the bin and put the motec on it?
Do I put the APR carbon rear wing on it or leave the std one, and if i do, shall i get a splitter made up? and if so how the fook do I know I'm balancing it out....
Do i take up snooker instead as I'll prob still not have driven it in anger this time next year ....

Mapping choices should always factor in your preferred mapper, first and foremost. The Motec is probably overkill for your car (and chosen spec) so maybe you could flog the Motec and fund a few other bits? Power FC's are great for your sort of spec and the D Jetro gives you head room for 550+ hp too.
The aesthetics are really tricky; if you put a big gay wing on, you'll end up spending money on diffusers, front splitters etc etc Your choice mate, but if you want to keep a lid on the budget, avoid anything that won't actually make you any faster or more reliable.
Snooker is fine, but it's not flat out in third, a whiff of oversteer, clipping the apex whilst the turbo hits full boost, is it?

Agreed re the mapper altho the D Jetro is really pissing me off, still can't get this part throttle richness sorted out altho going to try again once the engines back in. If it can't be sorted I'm going to bin it and put the Motec on.
And I'll be a bit upset if the Liner doesn't do more power than the zed too!! Should do tho as it made good power on the smaller turbos than the ones on it now
Again, I'm with you on the wings. It definately made a difference to the zed, I think I might get another bootlid and put it on that so I can try back to back and see for sure what difference it makes, as you say, could do without then having to dick about trying to balance the aero and not having a clue...
I think I get your point about snooker

Bit of a delayed update as usual, and finally got a few pics off my phone too.
Engine Out, despite best efforts to pull the sump off in situ it's true, you can't do it just by taking the subframe off so engine had to come out

As of today engine is back in and running. The Trust sump extension is on, have moved the oil cooler and taken the oil filter relocation kit off, also put a cooler on the PAS, quietened the zorst down, new gearbox and diff oils in, done some general tidying up and also advanced the cam timing by 5 degrees so now need to map it up properly again.
Similarly going to have a new twin chamber breather catch tank made up as the old one doesn't fit too well now the race port dump valve is on, hence in the pic there's nothing there.
Good news is that while engine was all in bits and put the new rods, bearings etc in, also got a chance to clean up the rings which were quite sooted up for some reason and the engine isn't breathing anywhere near as much as it did
. It's also much quieter with that rb26 rattley noise much less audible, altho it did that last time it had an oil change so it may come back....
Here some pics of the interesting bits
engine back in

Sump kit on - hoping this doesn't rip off first time I go "agricultural"

oops somehow sent that post before I'd finished
Oil cooler now mounted at front as oil was getting hot with it sitting between the i/c and rad. Hoping this will solve the prob, v big cooler and right in the airflow, esp with the big holes I drilled (which I'm loving
)

So theres a few bits still to go but REALLY hoping to make brands on the 17th. Waiting for new set of wheel studs and a drop link that dies while unnecessarily removing sub frame etc, new tow eye, I also broke a thread on one of the adjustable top arms so need a new pair of them as it's causing slight play in front n/s wheel (apex performance, driftworks - any suggestions....?)
Then I start thinking about cages......

I think the Driftworks top arms ones are pretty good and well made for the price (from others recommendations, not my first hand knowledge mate)
Love the vents and the oil cooler is huge......that should do the job. In terms of observations, I'd be inclined to put some mesh in front of the intercooler and oil cooler, just to be on the safe side. You tend to push on a bit (
) so you may get issues with stones getting flung at the car at very high speed. Enough to puncture a cooler? Who knows but some mesh may save you some tears. The only other thing that you may want to consider is some kind of simple skid pan for that sump. Nothing to overboard but something that would act as a guard whilst enabling you to get the hot air out of the engine bay.
Having said that, there will be lots of cars a lot lower than yours on track mate. Agricultural detours are all part of the fun and I see know reason why the Trust sump extension is any worse than anyone elses.
The car is looking very nice again. I couldn't help looking around the bonnet/engine bay noticing all of the mods. Brings back memories (and palpitations
)

Come back luke - the force is strong in you
Yeah I did wonder about mesh but not sure how much it will help unless it's very fine. A small stone could prob puncture a cooler easy enough but it's something thats on the list of considerations.
I also considered some kind of skid pan but thought exactly as you, even tho it seems low in comparison to stock sump it's nowhere near as low as some proper race cars so would have to be unlucky to pluck it off on a kerb or something. Sure it will be fine.
Gonna check out the dw stuff and others, probably all the same stuff anyway, DW is just orange...

Brief update on progress, altho no pics yet...
Car is currently at X Works having roll cage made and fitted, also sort the rot in the rear arches and flare them a bit, along with a couple of other little jobs like big front tow eye etc. Not sure on progress as i've been out of the country for about a month but I'm hoping it's going well so will post pics once i've been up there.
Other than that have decided to put my Motec on the car rather than have it sitting on a shelf while I struggle with the PFC mapping so that will go on once the car is back.
Then, with a some luck and a prevailing wind, i might actually be able to get on track.......
I'm not holding my breath however......
