A Fond Farewell to an Old Friend

Post by Harry »

Sadly today was the last time I will drive the Snetterton that I have come to love and enjoy and of which I have very fond memories either driving Caterham`s or Scoobies the circuit has always rewarded smoothness and goaded you to go just a little quicker and today was no exception.

The day started off cold and wet when we left King`s Lynn but cheered up considerably when we had a typical Snetterton Breakfast, sign on and breifing passed without too much drama but there were an awful lot of drivers.

Both Russ and I managed to keep it on the black stuff during sighting laps but that was all Russ managed it seems that he was struck down with the same bug that I was at Cadwell unless of course I was fast enough to get a F1 drive next year but I think that is more than a little unlikely.

Some realy nice cars there today 3or 4 Porker GT3 RS`s a DB9 quite a few MX5s in varying degrees of tune but laid that little nemisis to rest during the course of the day, usual se7ens very nice mini and of course some Scoobies

Despite the damp and cold there were no red flags throughout the day and after lunch there was a fair degree of grip to be found particularly on Bomb-Hole which in the morning had the front washing wide until the compression sat the car down

And so it was a fond farewell to that high speed circuit but we do have an intriguing layout or indeed layout`s to look forward too that will test man and machine and by this time next year I am sure that we will be singing the praises of Snetterton and while the memories will remain new ones will be made

Nice write up Harry. I am sure that many of us will look back on the old circuit with very fond memories.

Don't worry Harry, the layout published will have some little tweeks to keep the new layout as a serious speed circuit.. promise :coolgleamA:

Yes, i heard a rumour that the entry corners (2/3) to the back straight may be set back to help keep top speed similar.

Obviously James knows more accurately what will happen as it is decided, passed and released.

From what little I have seen I think we are in for a treat in the long-term with a number of options and of course a top notch venue for the east of England.

Come on Palmer get stuck in and get it ready for early 2011

Sorry for the anxiety attack Jason, I think being sentimental must be an age thing, must say I did enjoy myself even got a bit of heat into the tyres but this was probably conducted from the brake discs

What's happening at Snett, are they going ahead with the plans that i saw a year or so back for a bigger venue and track? Didn't get to drive it this year, always away or tuning car when i was back. Just seen the name a corner thread, looks good.
