Pinto power here we come
Ping and Poo
Having just treated my old girl to a heater and thermostat, I was getting ready for easy, no worries miles, whan a really odd thing happened. I was trying to start the car tonight, and noted the throttle pedal seemed a little stiff (Like the carpet or mat was caught up). I thought nothing of it until the engine caught and the revs went through the roof. I shut the engine down as the pedal dropped to the floor
Popping the bonnet revealed the cable end had come adrift, the black curved plastic "thingy" had come off the sprung throttle mechanism. I can get it to go back on, so I'm guessing a bits come off, a bloody outrage as it's only 23 years old
So the cars stranded 9 miles from home till Monday when i can try and get some bits. Do you reckon I'll be able to get the bit, or will I need the whole cable?

Without knowing which 'bit' has broken, there is no real way of knowing mate. I would have thought that you'd be best to buy the whole cable, but if the part is shared with other cars, maybe Al or Paul could help?
Can you see what's missing from comparing under bonnet pictures and photos from your car? Uploading that should help
This should be an easy fix mate.

Thanks Alan, sorry for the rubbish description. I'll try and get one myself. Effectively, as the throttle cable comes through over the inlet manifold, through the rigid mount and the adjustable thread nut, the exposed cable comes to the end with the plastic curved retaining joint. It's that part that has come adrift from the throttle linkage.
You can see the black curved section here...
