I'd sell it. One vote for buy something stupid! Or 300bhp (nothing less) 1.8t and be done with it because that'd make the golf silly! I don't think a good power fwd is your thing though.
mk1 escort, supercharged.

Oh.......thanks Ian :D

So that's you and Gareth saying 'sell up and save up'? Front wheel drive is never going to be my first choice for layout but then this car (or the car that needs to fill the role of a cheap to run daily hack) was bought for not much more than a weekends worth of trackdays.

Currently researching engine options and looking at

I think the guys have all got valid points. I would also say keep the golf if you do enjoy it as a track toy? Coincidently steve (who works with sasman) has recently done a 1.8 turbo conversion on his mark 2 all on a mega tight shoestring budget. Now not wanting to take anything away from the n/a golf boys but steve`s golf is now a total hoot! with his crap road tyres it is a giggle fest as it still spins the wheels up in third! But that said i`m not sure its the right way to go if you are looking at future classic values? I used to buy a cheap rear drive smoker ( usually a sierra) for the winter months so my prized Ti did n`t salt covered. I had good fun with `em and the best bit was i made money on evey one of them when i sold them on in the spring.:) If i still played the same game today i would be looking at something like a 325 as the sierra`s are so thin on the ground now.
Would i be far off if i said you are bored because your motoring life is missing the buzz of boost or the sound track of multiple cylinders?;)

Not far off at all Russ, but I bought the Golf because there were several other people who were getting something similar (Mike, Trev, Nick and Ben already had one) Nothing has changed in that respect mate. Yeah, I'd love more power but the point of buying it would be defeated if I was significantly quicker than the lads purely down to extra ponies under the bonnet.

It has huge potential on the right track (ie Snett 100/Cadwell/Brands etc) and serves 80% of its current potential very well. It will never be a rear wheel drive, six cylinder sports car but then, with running costs and purchase prices in line with the Golf, what will?

Your mates home brewed 1.8T Russ; what's the details on that? (Cost, donor vehicle, labour, power etc etc)

Don`t get me wrong mate, i totally understand and argree with the idea behind the golfs. I so nearly joined in but it would have meant selling the scoob. I can now say im so glad i did n`t because although its not done much this year and just last week i reconnected the battery went for a blast grinning from ear to ear all the way and settled my inner demons.:)
Steves golf was made up from well set out shopping list i think all picked from ebay over time. If its a possible road for you then pop down to his works (you know where he is;)) He quite obliging taking passengers on demonstration runs.:D

Well Stu, I think I'm on the side of selling it if thats what you're thinking. It's a great car and you've got it to a great spec and I'm sure it's awesome on the track, low power aside which lets face it you knew and isn't the be all and end all of a fun track car anyway.

But i've been in the same place with my old Primera - pre zed days of course so you wont remember it but is was fully stripped, tuned, caged etc, was a really sorted handler and did make me smile the way you could throw it around. BUT, I just got bored of the power and the FWD which by the sounds of it is where you are.

It's your call mate, only you know, but from what i know of you you're a big (er) power and rwder :cheers2:

Thanks for the link Jason. Some great stuff on there mate and that particular car is one that Trev, Mike and I have had a look around before. Cracking bit of kit :)

New twin 10" fans have been ordered as part of a range of cheap but effective cooling mods. Not giving up on the old girl yet, but I will start to save up some dosh ready for further options next year.
