Onboard MX5 Racing @ Silverstone GP

Post by Maxx »

As well as doing the 24hr race at Silverstone last weekend In was also looking after my Saudi friend Fahad in the Ma5da MX5 Autumn Championship, He has come over from Saudi to do the entire MA5da season and we have video'd all rounds. A pretty busy weekend then .... so why of why then when I was offered a drive in the 3 race Championship as well did I say yes .. Doh!

I do know why, I enjoy drivng the MX5 as it makes you feel like a getaway driver or spotty Twoc'er plus I love driving Silverstone GP.

Anway, it was a very tough weekend, torrential rain for most of it but we did get one dry MX5 race and a dry start to the 24hr.

Neither of our video systems worked properly for race 1, I can see now what RT developed a Pro verson of the VIDEO4 for Powerboaters, the Sport model is not up to it.

We did however get video and data (mostly) for races 2 & 3.

I started on P2 for race 2 ... by nature of being so crap in Race 1 and a BTCC style reverse grid to Race 2. It was the first time I had sat in the car in Quali and it was a bit <cough> rough. It was wet as a wet day with extra wet and you know what Silverstone is like in the wet. Anyway, crap start (never really had to get one of these off the line before) but probably would have held onto 2nd out of T1 Copse, apart from the fact that I was whacked big style into Copse and only just kept it out the gravel ... and that is half way to Northampton.

Anyway, you will see in the video. Lost at least 20 places (43 cars on the grid) but got back up to 14th which meant starting in 14th for Race 3 and after getting up to 5th at one stage I backed out of a couple of 50/50 situations (that any regular MX5 racer would have kept his foot in) and finished 10th.

Race 3 was Red Flagged at the end of lap 1 owing to 2 big accidents. In avoiding one young Fahad snook be me on the main straight :)

Anway, here are the vids, I know a few on here have considered MX5 racing, it'#s class and frantic stuff as you will see.
