All of this 'sell the Golf' stuff stems from boredom. In many ways the car is just what I want. Sure there are a couple of niggles, but when you've come out of a race prepared M3 or 450 odd horse power GTR, there were bound to be difficult comparisons
Essentially it's cheap to run with low insurance and fuel costs. It's fun to drive as the handling is like something off of Mario Kart, the braking is just rude and the grip levels make you laugh. I like the looks and there is no knocking the fact that it's a good example with a decent specification, thanks partly to my wallet and partly to huge parts availability.
Downsides include no stereo so you have to listen to the engine (boo) and the fact that the starting from cold is a bit hit and miss. The refinement of a more modern car, from its smooth running and predictable nature, would be most appreciated.
So, what to do? I have considered putting in another engine. A more modern two litre or even the 2.9 from the VR6 are both options. So is a forced induction 1.8 turbo, which guarantees big increases in refinement and power. And bills
Another option is selling up (hence the ad) and buying something stupid. Stupid because it could be rear wheel drive. Stupid because it could be V8 or turbo'd. Stupid because it would inevitably end in tears when bills expand and fun for pounds diminish.
I have had a few people sniffing around the car, two test drives and one offer of a part ex (You can stick a Nissan Primera GT right up your arse

)
I could break it..........na!! Been there too many times in recent years, I can't do that again.
So, gents. What would
you do?
I have spoken to a couple of thoroughly nice lads about putting a two litre 16v in, which will boost power a bit and refinement a lot. Bearing in mind I have actually spent far more on this car than I ever wanted to ("
It's going to stay standard") spending another
