Daniel looking at the amount of the old bolt you have showing i my experiance i would not use a nut because you will not get enough weld onto the sheared bolt before it starts arcing on the nut ,i would use a piece of 3 mm sheet cut about an 1" or so wide x what ever length you can get in the area and still turn it a full 360 with a hole drilled to take the sheared bolt . Hope this makes sense mate.
Dan, i think the root of this problem may be deeper. Both bolts were there when the box was changed and still there when i put the new clutch hose on. From the pedal problem and the squeek we heard when you met Maff at my place last Saturday there may be a problem with the arm/pivot in the box.

if that is going to be the pivot arm which i seriously hope it's not going to be, it'll have to be shelved until i can buy a new or recon box. however when the studs removed i'll get a couple of high tensile bolts and some loctite from work and see how the car operates then. fingers crossed that it isnt going to be that

Just be careful Dan. You keep summising the problem rather than getting it looked at professionally. Do you know APT's phone number lol?

only problem is though, i don't have a pile of cash burning a hole in my pocket. i can barely scrape money together to pay for someone to look at it let alone have work done. so i cant really keep paying out to have parts removed and refitted to diagnose what could be a cheap fix, so i have to try out solutions that are cheaper to me first off and eliminating the problems that way.
It's not ideal at all and i hate having to do it, but until i have my pay rise i'm pretty much stuck.
