Alternative to staying the night before is driving up early I guess. There's a cracking b/a-road route Stamford-Bourne-Sleaford that I do in under 2.5hrs on the bike from Linton. As it's early morning the time will prolly be similar in the car.

Ill be up there the night before ....... last thing i would need it to be held up in a jam on the morning of the track day ;-)

Seems like lots of places to stay but what about the availability of fuel on or close to the circuit? bearing in mind how thirsty the Subaru is and I understand no garages (is this true) I dont want to leave cans of fuel out in the open for any Tom Dick or Fred to use so any guidance would be helpful

I've never had an issue with fuel being nicked. The nearest station is about 3 miles away (Horncastle Shell) On circuit fuel is not V-Power equivalent so buy that and buy octane booster or buy RAC cover :D
