Not yet at least.
Mine has replaced every aspect of the Nissan - noteably sat in the driveway motionless for months at a time The difference is that the Subaru remains in a working state.
I've got my WRX wagon down to 5-6mpg on a trackday/very spirited run and i've had 300miles to a tankfull of the good stuff on trips to Scotland with two dogs in the back, back seat full of crap and my better half riding shotgun.
In all honesty and with a car like this, if one of your questions is what mpg does it do it might not be the right type of car for you, specially if it's going to be your daily runner.
Perhaps an Impreza sport instead as has been suggested, that does about 30-35mpg might be more your thing. All the grip and handling of the Turbo models but not the go although it would be utterly reliable.
ETA....for what it's worth. The newage Impreza sport is mappable and with the right bolt on bits you should be able to squeeze another 10-20+bhp and similar torque from the 2Ltr boxer. In normally aspirated terms that's not bad.

Waiting now for another execution date!!:headhack:
Thanks for all the advice and links to cars MPG wise I'm not too bothered as long as it gets near to 30mpg. The Gsi is only supposed to do 28, but I'm getting 31 atm
I'm looking for a bog standard car if possible, proably like looking for the holy grail
I'd bag up the one Stu posted, looks great, not sure about the 1.5 engine though LOL
You're not going to get 30mpg from a WRX or STi whatever age it is or however you drive it, more like 20-22.5mpg on a sensible long run at a steady 70-80mph, or if you drive it around town very gently on a very light throttle maybe 17-20mpg.
Sounds like you are probably looking for a normally aspirated Subaru i.e. Impreza GX or GX Sport, if most of your driving is town and country. You can get a fair turn of speed from them if you work the engine without too drastically affecting economy, unlike a turbo impreza.
This one looks dead straight and and in very nice condition + has a full Subaru Service History. You would probably get it for less than

personally dont do a N/A one for economy, they are virtually as bad as a turbo but no power!!
as for the cost of the repairs, you cant buy many parts from discount centres to o/haul the likes of the engines, etc. so in real terms its nothing to do with the amount of people who will or wont repair them its simply economics of the cost of purchasing the parts and then the labour to do (bear in mind that ANY engine work is going to require the whole lump pulled out of its accomodation and then re-fitted after, unlike an in-line four)
its actually slightly more expensive to o/haul an early car than post 1998 because of the cost of the cranks!!
as for mileage i have reguarly had 30mpg on a ton'ish run in a UK car, but you'll struggle to get 25mpg day to day - if it was me i would be looking for a post99 car due to the massive advances in build and spec quality

To be fair, that was your fault
I suppose we could look at widening the scope. So lets say 25-30ish mpg, 4 wheel drive, reasonably nippy and cheap. What you got in mind? Not many fitting the bill I think.
