know it alls

Post by projectgengar »

met the local classic car know it all yesterday, was talking about cars and in the local coop he started a f***in row with me, started telling me how i had loads to learn and i should do some research because i was totally wrong, all this because i said i knew some people who run big v8's of 500 ci or bigger, guy went into a rant saying he knew without doubt that 350 was the biggest they could make, what a prat, sorry about the rant but he really spoke to me like a child, he should stick to thinking his 2.7 straight 6 running 110bhp is great and let me live my life:headhack:

Self appointed experts are a pain in the arse mate, but let him continue in his misguided little world, the very ethos of this place is that it's largely a bullshit free zone, so he's unlikely to find his way here!

If he thinks a 350ci is as big as it gets, he probably doesn't have electric, let alone access to this forum :)

I'm afraid that all walks of life are filled with opportunities to get or give the wrong impression. Maybe he does know a thing or two, but in his eagerness to strike up a rapport with you about cars, he came across like a twat? I have listened to people talk about events, cars, performance or just about any other facet of automotive gubbins for so many years. Time and time again I don't get the time to explain a point properly, that now I either don't bother at all or just go 'yeah' when the lumbering Haynes manual in front of me won't let me get a word in :) Maybe the fella or lady walks away thinking that I'm a cock or that I don't know shit about cars (maybe both eh? :) )

My old grandmother in law had a saying, God rest her soul. " Never try to reason with a fuckwit or a drunk"
I make her about right

If someone wants to talk shit or argue the toss when they are clearly misinformed, let them get on with it. I spend my career trying to raise people's awareness (education and counselling) and one thing that I know is that people will only take something on board if they want to.

Onwards and upwards :D

Driving a fast Jap import is like coming out of the closet, you might surprise some people, but in the end you are still gay.

Awww mate I know exactly what you mean. Having an RX7 and the rotary engine just brings out 'know it alls' in droves !!!! The number of times people have said to watch out as the 'head gaskets' go and that you can get more power with modified cams is laughable.

Stu, your gran was spot on :)
