just a follow ,up we managed to purchase a second hand canon eos 400D with a couple of lense's and hard case etc. Hattie has used it in the garden a couple of times but today we took the opportunity to pop over to snetterton on a test day and have a go ,needless to say we were well pleased at our first attempt with a dslr ,a lot to learn but that is the fun bit.

Quality shots there!

I got a similar Canon to yours and some of the BP banners are my shots, it's a great starter camera - well done!
