What a mad old day.
I left the Shire at 7.30am and got back at 9.45pm. Mr Blackmore was there at his impressive unit to meet me and Grace, loaded up to the hilt spare wheels, seats, brakes and just about anything else I could fit in
In no time at all, the car was yoinked up in the air using the trusty portable lifting device

As Mike had recently fitted his own coilovers and brakes, the information he'd gained was enormously useful and sped things up no end. My old suspension was.............er..........fucked

Needless to say, they won't be being sold on eBay.
Mike had worked out the optimum ride heights and pre-set mine to the same; handy eh?

Fitted with the stronger G60 top mounts, things were taking shape already.

The GAZ GHA's feature damper adjustment on the car and the normal height adjustment you'd expect of coilies. One pleasant surprise was the substantial, robust design of the damper itself. Built like a brick shit house. Spring rates were 450lb on the front and 225lb on the back. These were Mark Gazzard's recommendations so good enough for Mike and I.
Whilst Mike was fitting one side, I was rolling the arches thanks to a Frost style arch roller, kindly lent to me by a gent from another forum. It was simple enough to use, even simpler thanks to the fact that I had plastic arch covers to go back on after rolling. I did crack the paint but all of this can be attended to when I can be arsed/ before we get regular wet weather.

The brakes were easy enough so nothing to report there.
So, with arches rolled, brakes fitted, and wheels on, it was time to turn our attention to a proper seat. Enter my trusty old Sprint XL from Corbeau. Once again, Mike knew exactly what he wanted to do and how he was going to do it.

Mike fabbed up the rails and with painstaking precision offered the seat up something like a dozen times before he and I were happy with the position. I must say, he was a legend throughout the day. The only criticism was his singing, but I can live with that
Seeing Mike work, you can see why his own Gti has come out so well. His attention to detail is superb

So, the seat was in and at that stage I think we'd both had enough. Mike suggested a test drive on some punishing farm tracks so I hopped in, really nervous, and went for a pootle around. The ride was actually quite compliant with minimal rubbing and bearing in mind I had around 100kgs of ballast in the boot, I was delighted. After all, with a stance like this, you can accept a little rubbing
(Money shots)

After driving across wildest Essex for around 180 miles, I can report that the steering is improved, the feel through the seat and the wheel is like I've suddenly started driving without wearing boxing gloves and welly's. Big change, big big change. Minimal rubbing with all of the gear in the boot and 50 litres of fuel. I'm looking forwards to scrubbing the new T1-R's in, getting the brakes working properly and getting that sodding ballast out
Roll on the 10th August
