Last December myself and a few guys from my place went down to the Top Gear test track/studio at Guildford as guests of the Stig.
It was a bit of an eye opener to be honest, I wouldn't say that I was disapointed, as it was a good day out and even blagged a few go's around the track with the Stig during the test drive of the new Fiesta RS
(I had a few blasts around the track in a Sprinter van on one of the previous occassions that I was down there; during the daylight and at night with no lights, which was an experience)
however the whole production side of things was a bit too fake for me and in my opinion is a bit tired now
The usual sketch of 'laugh at the jokes, even if they aren't that funny after six takes' and Hammonds several staged crashes on the motorised skate board etc
It's entertaining but some things do get annoying after a while
I'll use the example of the episode where they're thrashing the lorries down at Millbrook, then they shoot off to the loo briefly for a bit of a 'let's abuse James May' sketch, then they go back outside on track to continue trashing the lorries.
The thing is, that loo is about 100m outside the Top Gear studio which is obviously in Guildford therefore, nowhere f***ing near Millbrook!
Love the show, have done for years and always watch the repeats with my lad, but they need a new generation of presenters now, to put a rocket up the show's arse and bring it back on track
New features like a 'modified car' track leader board and 'Forces cars' (ie. a 5 minute feature on cars owned by guys in the forces. Works well in the US)
If they need somebody to fill the presenter slot, I'll be available soon
