Fil and I have been exchanging messages and calls for months; all of them leading up to today, all of them leading up to him unleashing the brute on the strip. Trev and I were fortunate enough to be allowed access to this private test event, were a select few cars gathered to shake down their cars. The quarter mile monsters included Chevy Nova's, Hot Rods, an old school Cavalier and a mighty Sierra, a Camaro along side a few Mustangs, a Corvette and a Kawasaki. Limited to 15 cars, the prep'ped track time these elite were allowed was mental.

The event was scheduled to get started at 10am but as Trev and I neared the strip, it was still spitting with rain and there was no way that amount of horsepower was going to be used with slicks. Arse. After a fair amount of piss taking, we hossed off to find some food and drink. Managed to bag a cheapo camera too as the best Trev and I could muster was an I-Phone

Good old Tesco's
Anyway, we arrived back at the track and the guys were queued up, with Fil and his Pony at the front

Trev and I jogged down after parking up, and made our way into the stand. I hadn't even had time to read the camera instructions, but we couldn't miss the run. Fil brought the car around, the uneven throb of the gargantuan V8 loping along, sounding like some kind of mechanical armaggeddon. The burnout produced thick, white plumes of sweet smelling smoke that filled the area behind the gantry. I'll let the video do the honours

Max1 and SneakyPete were there, amongst a few others, to lend a hand ensuring Fil could concentrate on getting into a groove. It paid off handsomely with Fil securing successively quicker times, starting with a sub 12 second run and then hitting 10.8, 10.6 and then a handful of 10.5's

After watching street driven cars running ten seconds or less, hearing them cause shockwaves through the stands let alone in the high street of their owners towns, it made me think. I strip the seats and interior out of the Golf and think I'm all 'motorsport'; one 23 year old here drives his big block, forged Hot Rod most weekends around his homeown. He also drove the same car from his home in Northampton down to Avon raceway, drove 9.9's all weekend and then drove home again afterwards!! Fil's car is taxed, tested and MOT'd, so if you see something looking like a Mustang but travelling like an F-15, you may want to wave as one of the forum's biggest characters drives by

Well done Fil. Proud to have been there. God knows what you'll achieve with that car when you're totally dialled in, using full revs, nitrous and the launch.
