The one thing with that car you have got there it has been reliable for one reason it a totaly original impreza engine with standard parts which i have looked after for mike if you are running it on a budget leave it alone and it will stay reliable.
The std ECU will handle 440cc injectors no probs until you get it mapped, but they must be the right injectors. As Mike says, go for the correct Phase 1 side feed type from a V.1 or v.2 STi.
Try Grade A Subaru for a set of used injectors, ask for Andy, he will have loads, all tested and taken off as sets - 01663 744114, they are pretty good and will do next day delivery.
You could always put up for sale your original Phase 1 380cc and Phase 2 440cc injectors that you currently have on Scabbynet or Pistonheads free of charge, or eBay to cover the cost of another set.
BTW Harry....Nothing wrong with a few more horses. Just think how much more you'll be smiling when it's running properly and mapped. The difference from the way your car drives right now to the way it could drive is night and day,

if you have used 99 injectors they will not fit without an alloy adaptor kit to convert them to the correct fit...............there is only a very slight difference between the two but enough to make a difference
carry kits in stopck if required
p.s. in our experience it will run badly on 440's without adjusting the ECU to sort, we would normally fit at the last minute prior to ECU install/mapping

The ECU will just about cope with 440's as is until it gets mapped. The jump from 380's to 440's isn't that big that the ECU won't cope. One of my customers drove his v.1 classic all the way from down south to mine in Northampton on 440's and the car ran fine although there was a fair bit of black smoke every time he floored it to overtake someone. Clearly that's just from running so rich.
Although Harry's car will run over rich it won't run so badly that you couldn't drive it gently for a bit. Overfuelling is better than running too lean however, Alyn is right that the injectors should be the last thing you fit.
No doubt Harry will let us know how the car runs when he's fitted the right injectors.

i personally wouldn't do it, as they run massively rich in our experience (as your customer found with his clouds of black smoke)
on some cars we have done they struggled to even idle
it may be fine for a short drive, but excessive rich is as bad if not worse than lean as it will bore wash and ultimately dilute the oil to the point that there is no lubricant properties left - at this point it will cost you more than a few beers to put right!!

Oh it was so easy when all I had were company cars, if I do go down the larger injection route I dont see a major problem with a short drive, keeping off boost as the car is currently running lean and having removed the "Piggy Back" is probably on "Jap" settings.
As a matter of course the oil would be changed on returning home and before the car was driven hard.
I am really apreciative of all the high grade technical advice that has been given and I hope that my responses have not been to snappy but I was very miffed when I first raised this thread
Thanks Russ, Yes all is well with the Silver Subaru (thanks in no small measure to you) I hadn`t updated because I have been so busy building fences, trellis and arbours. Oh why oh why did I retire I`ve not stopped since I stopped work
Now to get the car re-mapped and back out playing
