Fitted New Injectors now Engine wont Turn Over

Post by Harry »

I am pretty sure that I have not dropped anything into the Fuel Injector Port but after replacing the 380cc injectors in my 1995 WRX with 1999 STI 440cc injectors the engine refuses to turn over, there was a metalic CLUNK when I tried the starter and when a spanner is used on the power steering pump pully (havn`t got one to fit the crank shaft pully) the engine seems locked

I have measured the new injectors against the old ones they are of the same length and if anything the new injectors penetrate the inlet manifold by a couple of mm less

If we assume that I havnt dropped a nut or bolt into the injector port what else could be causing the problem? is there anything I have overlooked.

I am spitting feathers at the moment so I havn`t taken the plugs out to see what resistance to engine rotation then exists

Any suggestions would be ratefully received even if accompanied by abuse

Thanks Garry, So it is an hydrolic lock up do I remove the plugs and turn the engine over by hand to clear? do I need to remove the injectors again?

I am planning to have an ESL motherboard fitted and have the car re-mapped (ECU & re-map by others definitley not by me)

yes remove injectors and check seals

then pull plugs, turn over by hand to spill fuel out, leave over night it will go by morning, then prob you'll need to change oil

maybe next time leave to a pro!!

I have no abuse Harry (for once ;) ) but I can appreciate your frustrations. Only today, I swore when the clingfilm got the better of me whilst making my sandwiches :D

(No way that I would take on a job like an injector swap without a suitable adult around. Fair play)

Harry iam surprised the injecters fitted. they shouldn't fit that manifold with that year injecter and be careful they dont flood the cylinders with fuel if you tryed running it it can even fill the exhaust so check everywhere (as gary as said as well)

Thanks for the advice,it is appreciated, as for leaving it to a pro next time the car is a toy operated on a budget not an open cheque book

Hello Mike they appeared to fit ok but obviously caused a problem with the bottom seals as garry suggests, think the best way forward is to revert to origibnal injectors and get the ECU upgrades and car mapped against the 380cc injectors.

At least the car will be useable and the performance was certainly ok I will jusst have to improve my skill to get more from it and not rely on HP alone

Harry just be carefull what you interchange if you do change the injecters put a set of sti phase 1 injecters you can put anything in from 92/96.

The one thing with that car you have got there it has been reliable for one reason it a totaly original impreza engine with standard parts which i have looked after for mike if you are running it on a budget leave it alone and it will stay reliable.

all the best mike
