BT Visions alright, its just a glorified PVR !!

Skys pricey to watch - although not quite tripling in cost every two years as some would have you believe ;) and if you get someone decent to fit it (and not with a dish the size of a plate) then you dont get any nonsense with loss of picture except perhaps during a blizzard - which can affect freeview just as much, and Sky doesnt tend to block when some twat on a scooter with no supression on the alternator goes past as happens all the time here when Im watching the Grand Prix on t'telly !!

Cable TV is the most robust in theory but over 17years of doing satellites and aerials I have only ever tended to take out cable TV systems to replace them rather than had customers go the other way, in fact we've just finished doing that for a posh block in London that have had almost no picture from Virgin since October !!! Their one and only advantage is the broadband they can offer, everything else will always be second best in quality terms as they get their feeds from dishes and aerials just like a house does - I should know, ALL Telewest customers got stuff through equipment I've worked on, as well as a large number of NTL's customers fed from their Bromley base !!

So for me a decent aerial and satellite install is hard to beat, as long as its done by a decent firm rather than Yellow page cowboys like "Aerial Systems" or heaven forbid Sky themselves !!!

Jeez chaps I can smell the testosterone in here !!

There are valid points in the arguments though, the Sky pricing has gone up because there is much more channels than 6 years ago and with the advent of tvs supporting HD has led to the HD channels which cost more to film and ultimately more to provide. That said some of the stuff filmed in proper HD looks incredible but there is still a lot of 'upscaling' on the channels. Then again what hasnt gone up in 6 years ? I'm interested to see what happens when Freeview HD comes out, will this mean you have to buy another BT Vision box later on ?

Personally speaking I only have a Freeview PVR and freesat (which was on the tv) that suits us.
My question to you though Stu is are you actually going to use it or is it just a fad like most satellite / extra tv channels are and you find yourself wondering after a year whether the cost was actually worth it ?

Well, while you lot were all donning your jock straps and getting lubed up, I have gone out and bought a simple basic Sky deal. I'll keep it for I'll keep it for 12 months and see what I want to do next year.
