Mondeo ST220 at Santa Pod

Post by Gareth »

Went to the Classic Ford show yesterday and ran the Mondeo for the first time.

Posted a best and respectable time of 15.2 @ 94 mph with a 2.4 60 ft.

Room for improvement on the launch, its one of the hardest i've run up the strip due to the dual mass flywheel, its not very forgiving.

When its a bit cooler i am aiming for a 14.9, be very happy with that for a 1500kg+ family car.

Not bad for the power to weight. You may be able to do a bit if you muck around with tyre pressures?

No mucking about here, although i will run it with less fuel next time, had 3/4 of a tank.

Its getting a Pipercross VIS kit coming which will put the filter in the bumper instead of the engine bay, which should give me a bit more, and maybe some nitrogen filled tyres ;)

I only meant dropping the fronts to 20psi for the runs, that's the extent of my 'mucking around' :D

I know, problem is that would mean upping the pressures afterwards, and i would never run on the road like that, so in a way, its a little bit of a cheat!

Grip isnt a problem though, being able to launch it at the point it wont bog down or spin is also the same point the DMF likes to spring apart and that will reduce its life, so i had to be sympathetic.

I played around with pressures on the Maestro and found it knocked down my terminal speed as it increased rolling resistance. The best 60ft i ever did of 2.2 was done on 30psi for the front, which is what i always used to run on the road.
