gerry i would be more up for a golf sprint series than going into a race series as you say finances are always a issue but would like to see whats involved but as we know theres alot to putting a car into a race series.

Just wont some fun put back into playing with cars.

Gerry, if I were you, just get the car you want.

I reckon I could place money on Mike not being content with an old Golf in a couple of months, and a few others as well.

Unless your racing them then I don't see the fun, as on a trackday or sprint as you say you'll be sloooooooow unless chucking silly cash at them, by which time your better off with a nicer car.

Why not get a Clio 197 like Richard Kirby has now, they look ace and he was saying they are great, then your back into a good class in A2 and you just buy the car and drive it! Simples!

Reason for the topic was not to have a go at anyone, just wondering where everyone had gone, as again, from Gerry's post, the banter in between runs was excellent with the group that was out there.

I'm not swanning off Gerry, you know my feeling on NW. Other than that location I actually think the other 2 airfield events that there are on the calender are actually quite good, mostly because they are very quick and you can really hang it out on them

In my eyes that era mentioned by Gerry was a peak. Times change along with circumstances; that summarises why I've fell out of love with sprinting. Your advice Logan, 'Buy the car that you want' is spot on. I wanted the car that I have bought and I can gradually (or not) tweak it according to my plans.

Will I track day it? Don't know.
Will I sprint it? Doubt it.
Will I do the odd show, trip further afield? Yes, 100%

Volks fest @ Santa Pod ( I think)
Both shows feature 1/4 mile stuff, one has handling circuit too and both have lots of very well engineered and presented cars. That combined with a few race meets and the potential for trips to Cadwell/Brands/Mallory etc will be more than enough.

Are you saying that your activities wil be confined to watching and polishing with maybe a 1/4 mile here and there? Am I right in saying that you now have a Golf GTi MK2 to mostly pose with?

I dare say that the Golf will be used for most things, but in moderation. I think that days at a suitable race track are more than likely. I think the odd bit of fun, such as Auto Tests, trips to Europe and 1/4 miles, will also be very likely.

I guess the mix of events I have enjoyed in recent years has been 90% active/10% passive. This year will be more like 70% active/30% passive.

One of the advantages of having something tamer is that it's road legal, and therefore can be enjoyed whenever I like.

Who'll be at Debden on the 9th?

I've let my license lapse, no sprinting for me this year, but I'd like to come along to some for the craic.

Scoob will be on track again this year, but not sprinting. Aiming at slightly more road bias this time, but with more power (MD321H fitted last weekend; remap planned soon...)
