Relief!

Post by Gerry H »

No, not that sort of thread :D

Had a busy day on Saturday.

Early evening we went to Slough to pick up the Audi. As luck would have it, the north bound M1 was closed just south of Bedford and all the alternative routes had massive queues, luckily we were headed south but still very busy. Picked up the Audi dreading the return trip and avoiding as much M25/M1 as poss but by the time we joined the M1 at J12, it had cleared.

In the early afternoon the guy came to pick up the Dax. He and his friend had driven up the 300 miles, from where they live in Cornwall, handed over the cash, had a cuppa and then squeezed his rather large frame into the rather small driver's seat, knees touching the steering wheel and shoulder pressing on the side screen. Stuck his space age helmet on and at about 3:00 set off on the 300 mile journey home.

It's always a worry, when selling anything that it'll be OK and cars are the worst. I'd have had no qualms about undertaking the trip but there's always that nagging feeling when it's someone else, especially as he was driving it for the first time.

Anyway, the relief came via email on Sunday night. The aux light is the indicator tell-tale. Tyres are 888s :

got back home last night at 2230hrs , car was superb really impressed , I thought it would be like a go kart i.e. it would seem to be going faster than it actually was but it was the opposite , I found that what seemed to be 70mph was 90 + !
will be changing the tyres this week as they don't work to well when the temp drops , I had one strange thing an aux green light flashed a few times but hasn't done it today , did this happen to you ?
the wife is impressed when we went to Looe today and lots of people like the car.

Phewww!

I had the same when buying the Golf from Trev; I had to persuade him to sell it to me in the end!
I'm delighted for you with regards to the Dax, both that it sold easily enough and that it did the honours and the chap is happy with it.

Onwards and upwards

Or two :D

I suggested he take a look through the bunch of receipts I'd given him with the Dax to see when the tyres were bought. I thought maybe they, like the failed dampers had been bought over 10 years ago and had gone off. I didn't have a problem with the tyres but he must use narrower roads in the depths of Bodmin.

thanks for the info ., in the dry the tyres are great but during the evening the temp dropped to 3 degrees and every time the rear wheels touched a white line the back end stepped out , it felt the same as a bike that has very sticky rubber on it , so I will be going for a more road based tyre

I remember Nigel Mansell, leading a wet Monaco GP in a JPS Lotus. It must have been his first time at leading a GP. Touched a white line and crashed.

Excellent Gerry, hope the Audi is every bit as good to drive as it looks.

Now you've got shot of the Dax and have a nice daily runabout, when are you getting rid of the EVO, and what will you buy in it's place?

That's assuming you're even getting rid of the EVO that is. :D
Buggers cancelled my op just a couple of days before it was due. Inconsiderate barstewards!!
