" Uh Betty you should of seen this car in Ely today!! it had stickers and stripes
all over it, and when it started up, the noise!!!, I could feel my teeth rattling!!!"
Nik,
That black 8 valve has lots of choice mods, which would have cost a few quid if you'd done it yourself.
As an aside, don't be put off Mk3's if YOU like them. Your going to be stripping out a lot of the added weight they come with, and the 16v engine, if you went that route are strong and rev very well (Mines got FSH, 150k, and still does 35mpg and revs further than I need it to -6,800 reached with ease at Snetterton in January).
It's just a thought, they are heavier and slightly less chuckable, but they are good fun none the less.
I will concede that a MK2 with an ABF would be quite quick, or a well set up MK2 KR 16v will go well, and the 8v chug along quite nicely.
If you are down Essex any time soon, you're welcome to take mine for a thrash!
The plus points of the Mk3 are the traction control, the ABS, arguably a wider better platform and a more modern design should you bend it.
Good luck with your decision, I'm sure you'll enjoy whatever you get
(A don't forget the offer of the test drive)
