Looking good trev there was some really nice golfs at the cadwell trackday

hammering around lap after lap.

Used to love my old 16v small bumper.

What are the 1.8 turbo Golf's like at 200bhp?

Depends on the model mate.
The engines are routinely fitted into anything from;

mk1= astonishing
mk2= cracking
mk3= not bad at all
mk4= decent daily driver

The pattern to follow here is more weight=more mediocrity. The 1.8t 20v engine will produce 200hp quite comfortably and all day long with relevant fueling mods. The clutches and gearboxes are tough; the brakes will need a little help in the form of pads.

If you want a daily driver, the newer models are more refined. If you want something track biased then the older models are much lighter and therefore better from a drivers point of view.

Thanks for the info. I was just idly thumbing through ebay's Golf pages and there seems to be a bwildering array of the things.
