What Ive Been Upto.

Post by Rnash2002 »

Well thought i would let you all know what ive been doing for the last year ish lol,ive still been on the forum from time to time but just reading stuff really.
I sold the GTO around 2 years ago now and stopped comming to the meets, well last year in July my family decided to move to just outside mansfield, the wife has family up here so made the jump,to be fair its not to bad up here and not fast paced just the way i like it lol.
Well had been in the house a few months and decided to get another motor to mess around with and just by chance my old brick i had came back up forsale.
Well i bought her back at a bargin price and for the mods the chap had done it was well worth it.
Heres what she was like when i last had her and when i bought her back.

Engine bay when i got her back.

Ok so me being me i couldnt leave alone for long, just didnt like the vent in the bonnet so that went, also the alloys where in a bad state so i had some others i had refurbed my self and got them fitted.
How she looks now.

Well joined a local forum to me and they had a rolling road day that i went to and was hoping for more than when i last had her as she now had full stainless exhaust from turbo back, race cat and a 16t turbo (fitted to the 850R).
Well she made 253bhp and 305 torques so around what she made when i had her so i wasnt to happy,i know being different rollers and all that but thought she would make maybe 10bhp more lol.
So over christmas i wanted more out of her and took the plunge to get her to 300bhp.
Bought a nice k24 turbo from the later s60R and later me7 manifold that i got the dremel out on lol, also got a set of bigger injectors.
So about 1 month ago i started to fit the stuff, the manifold was a straight fit but the turbo was tight, had to get the oil feed line from the s60R re bent to fit and also get my downpipe sorted as its a angled flange on the new turbo and a straight on my old one.
So once i had this all back together i got the downpipe off to see if i could take it to someone to sort out and too my shock i say this.
Image
Now i could see where my loss of power was lol,it should have been a 3" from turbo back but the pipe was more like 2" and the bend looked so restrictive,i was not happy lol.
Well got the car trailered to powerflow in mansfield and they ummed and ared about it saying they probably couldnt do much better lol but in the end once they saw how much room then had to play with they managed to get a 3" pipe in there from the turbo so i was pritty happy.
Got the car home and done a leak test, all seemed fine on idle out side my house but once i took her for a run and stoped i could see there was a leak.
And just my luck it was from a water pipe touching the side of the turbo so had to all most remove the turbo to replace it.
Well after all the messing around shes finaly back together, wasnt to sure if i had done the right thing with the k24 as the 18/19t fit straight on her with no modding of pipes and stuff.
Put a manual boost controller on her for now untill i get her mapped, shes running 9.5psi and ive got a smile back on my face, she pulls very hard almost as hard as when she had a remap and the 16t on running 17psi but now you can just feel theres more to come from her.
The turbo is rated around 330/340bhp so if i dont see 300bhp in her once shes mapped then i dont know what i will have to do lol.
With the mods the last owner done to her she should go pritty well once mapped,he had a m59 box put in her (850R) that has lsd so puts the power down well also had her lowered on shocks and springs and sorted the bushes on the front aswell as a volvo strut brace.
Theres a volvo meet at york raceway on may the 30th and im hoping i have her all done as im looking to get her into the 13's,she pulled a 14.5 by the old owner so if i get 300bhp then i should be good for it.
Will have to come to another snett meet aswell once the weather gets better and also another dyno day once one's sorted out on here again.
Cheers
Russell

The car is looking great Russ; welcome back mate :)

Best of luck with York raceway; surely you can go quicker than that with some sticky tyres out front?
