Coilover rebuilds

Post by Daniel »

Hi guys :)
after i have the clutch done im looking at buying a second hand set of coilovers for the marham trackday :driving: (since my struts are rotten to shit) now question is, does anyone know roughly how much they cost to rebuild? if its alot of money then i might aswell buy new. Just need everyones advice before i think seriously about buying a set :)

cheers

If you need something shooting, or a payload to low earth orbit. Just ask.

I think it will firstly depend on whether the coilovers you buy are rebuildable. If so, then what company would do it if the original manufacturer doesn't offer the service.

I know GAZ will rebuild the dampers of other manufacturers but I guess this depends on whether the parts they have are usable in the other manufacturer's units.

GAZ are very cheap. They charged me

Pike had a man who knew a man that could rebuild suspension units. It may be worth sending him a PM (The email address he has linked to this site isn't working properly)

That aside, I would be say that the brands that can be rebuilt by the manufacturer is greatly outweighed by those that can't. You can get basic coilovers from places like Japspeed for 'not a lot' and I would be more inclined to buy new rather than risk buying a set that need doing, unless you check first :)

Out of interest Dan, how much are OE struts? Maybe some uprated springs like Eibach could be an option.

cheers for the links Gerry. I saw those KYB dampers a while back. That price is for dampers only, whereas i need everything. The legs on mine are really rotten and the droplink brackets have been re welded x amount of times but they still break. :(
